About the Role

Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Academic, College, and Career Advisor. The Academic, College & Career Advisor is one who displays a deep knowledge of Scripture and demonstrates a passion for ministering to students. A strong candidate must be a professing and maturing Christian enthusiastically supporting Valley Christian's Statement of Faith and mission statements.


Job Summary:


The Academic, College & Career Advisor must possess experience in academic, college and career high school advising or a combination of experience demonstrating knowledge of the high school population, career exploration, college admission. The ideal candidate can work effectively with parents, faculty, students, administration, and professionals to maximize college readiness outcomes. The ACC Advisor will be required, with support, to work independently, managing responsibilities and responding to needs as needed.  


Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive career exploration program, utilizing AZCIS, for high school students
  • Develop parent and student events, regarding academic, career, college, and vocational information to educate and equip students for post-graduation plans
  • Act as the main point of contact for all incoming freshmen and sophomore students, being responsible for course scheduling, transfer considerations, developing four-year plans and new student orientation meetings
  • Take the lead in school testing including ordering, registration, implementation and other related duties
  • Monitor all students academic progress, identifying students in need of intervention, providing support and communicating academic interventions to families, faculty and coaches
  • Meet with students as needed for a variety of reasons including academic, social, and emotional and be able to identify students needing further support outside of Valley Christian
  • Be able to work in a very fast-paced environment, changing gears often and being able to respond quickly to the needs of faculty, administration, students and parents.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and resolve conflicts in a biblical and positive manner
  • Learn Renweb student information system and take the lead in creating the master schedule and generating all student schedules.
  • Be able to utilize Microsoft office products to generate written reports, analyze data, create student data spreadsheets needed for standardized testing administration and as needed for job duties
  • Be flexible and coachable responding to directions from the Dean regarding daily job tasks
  • Collaborate with Academic Department colleagues on department events, testing, scheduling and other needs as required
  • Collaboratively work and meet with the High School Principal regularly to ensure that all tasks are being completed in a timely manner and to receive support and assistance whenever needed
  • Adhere to Valley Christian policies, procedures/processes, and codes
  • Perform other related assigned duties

Requirements

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Must have a personal relationship with Jesus Christ that is a consistent testimony to others

  • Agree to uphold Valley Christian’s Statement of Faith
  • Faithfully attend and financially support a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with our school’s Mission & Beliefs.
  • Adheres to and honors Valley Christians standards, policies, procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook
  • Must have and maintain a valid level one IVP fingerprint card
  • Must have and maintain a valid Arizona driver's license
  • Must be proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
  • Ability to communicate effectively both written and verbally
  • Must have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Ability to exercise initiative and sound judgment and to react with discretion under varying conditions.
  • Ability to multi-task with organization without direct supervision
  • Must have strong leadership and team-building abilities
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines with a customer-service mindset
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and appropriate relationships with outside vendors and businesses.

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in School Counseling or related field from an accredited college is required

Preferred Skills and Knowledge:

  • 2-3 years’ experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

  • Use a computer (visual and keyboarding) for long periods of time
  • Able to remain in a stationary position (sitting or standing) 50% of the time
  • Occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
  • At times requires stooping, bending, turning, pushing, pulling, reaching, and climbing stairs (2-story)
  • Use of hands, fingers, and arms to reach, grip, and maneuver objects
  • Must be able to respond quickly to sounds (fire/security alarms)
  • Work in a noisy and crowded school environment
  • Able to work a flexible schedule including weekends and evenings when needed
  • Frequent walking throughout the campus
  • Must be able to travel in state and between campuses, to vendors, and related events
