Join our team as a Coding Auditor at the Puyallup Tribal Health Authority (PTHA), and play a critical role in ensuring high-quality patient care through compliant, precise, and ethical coding practices.
In the Coding Auditor role, you’ll serve as a trusted subject matter expert, supporting providers and staff while strengthening documentation integrity, reducing risk, and advancing organizational excellence. What You’ll Do:
- Serve as the go-to resource for coding guidance (ICD-10, CPT, HCPCS) across the organization
- Review provider documentation within 72 hours to validate coding, billing compliance, and encounter accuracy
- Identify documentation gaps and offer timely, constructive feedback to improve coding precision
- Conduct coding audits, analyze findings, and deliver actionable insights
- Develop and deliver training for providers, coders, and billing staff based on trends and updates
- Monitor regulatory updates and payer requirements, recommending process improvements as needed
- Partner with departments such as Compliance, CDI, Revenue Integrity, and Patient Financial Services
- Contribute to audit plans, policy development, and risk assessments
- Provide advanced coding support and pre-bill review for high-level or sensitive encounters
What You Bring:
We’re looking for someone who combines technical expertise with strong communication and a passion for continuous learning:
- Coding Certification: CPC, CCS, or CPMA required
- Three (3) years of recent coding and billing experience in a family practice setting
- Three (3) years of outpatient auditing experience
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10-CM, CPT, HCPCS, and HIPAA regulations (including Washington State requirements)
- Experience with electronic health records (EHR) and practice management systems
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Excellent analytical, communication, and training skills
