Summary of Job Function:
The Receptionist at Bliley’s Funeral Homes & Cremation Center welcomes and guides guests with courtesy, professionalism, and compassion. While all Bliley’s associates are responsible for serving as “hosts” of our facilities, the Receptionist serves as a dedicated first point of contact for clients, families, and guests. Through introductions, escorts, warm handoffs, easy visibility and clear communication, Receptionists ensure guests feel comfortable, safe, and supported throughout their visit, from the moment they arrive until the moment they leave. This role requires excellent communication skills, a compassionate demeanor, and the ability to work in a sensitive environment.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
- Maintain integrity of front lobby, including cleanliness and organization of front desk and appropriate overall environment.
- Greet all guests who arrive at the funeral home with warmth, sensitivity, and professionalism.
- Orient guests to public spaces, offering introductions, ensuring needs are met, and providing warm hand-offs to team members.
- Assist guests at public and private visitations, ceremonies, and receptions.
- Welcome guests arriving for funeral arrangements, advanced planning appointments, picking up death certificates, or dropping off clothes or other personal effects. Greet walk-ins and other unexpected visitors.
- Maintain active awareness of guests present in facilities at all times.
- Coordinate with visiting vendors, suppliers, and service providers as needed.
- Take and relay messages accurately to appropriate associates.
- Maintain an accurate master calendar for the location.
- Assist with setup for ceremonies and events.
- Assist with proper placement and presentation of decedents in guest spaces.
- Receive death certificates and ensure timely notification to families.
Requirements
- High School diploma or GED required.
- Exhibits a high degree of sensitivity and caring for families experiencing a loss.
- Well-groomed with a neat, clean, and professional appearance.
- Pleasant personality and excellent communication skills.
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in receptionist or administrative support roles.
- Demonstrates strong organizational, data entry, and computer skills.
- Demonstrates consistent care & concern for guests and associates, regardless of diverse backgrounds and presentations.
- Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, reach, bend, lift, listen, and talk. May need to transport items weighing up to 25 pounds and stand for two to three hours at a time.
Work Schedule
This position works on an every-other-weekend rotation, covering the front desk at one of our three Locations for 8 hours each on Saturday and Sunday (9-5). It is a non-exempt position which requires working weekdays and holidays. Availability to be on call when chapel needs arise is required.
