Summary/Objective
The Lead Mechanic oversees a team of mechanics and is responsible for managing the repair and maintenance of diesel equipment and vehicles. The role requires strong leadership skills to assign tasks, ensure safety and compliance, and provide technical guidance. The Lead Mechanic will also handle complex repairs, perform diagnostics, and maintain high standards for equipment performance and safety. Review all parts request track repair orders and tracks parts orders for on island and special-order parts. Able to communicate with vendors for repairs and parts needed. Dispatches mechanics to jobsites and assign work orders daily. Reviews and performs quality inspections for work performed to verify proper repairs. Is familiar with diagnostic systems and computers. Can perform multiple taskings at a time and is able to update reports for internal and external customers. Schedule daily workloads and ensures that repair orders are completed with supporting documents.
Desired, able to obtain and maintain a certification from Automotive Services of Excellence or equivalent.
Essential Functions

- Supervise and provide technical support to mechanics in the field and shop, ensuring repairs are completed efficiently and correctly.
- Assign repair tasks based on priority and skill level and monitor progress to maintain productivity.
- Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic issues on equipment such as excavators, loaders, trenchers, forklifts, and other heavy machinery. Maintenance and Light Repair, Engine Repair, Automatic Transmission/Transaxle, Manual Drive Train and Axles, Suspension and Steering, Brakes, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating, Air Conditioning, Engine Performance, and hydraulic issues on equipment such as Land scaping, Construction, Fuel servicing, Material and weight handling equipment and not limited to General purpose vehicles and Public Works fleet.
- Perform quality control checks on all repairs and maintenance work.
- Fabricates, modifies, and installs special equipment or replacement parts
- Performs routine maintenance checks and adjustments (i.e. fluid levels, hoses, belts, brakes, tires, and clutches) Changes filters/oil, and lubricates vehicles and motor driven equipment
- Coordinate preventative maintenance schedules to minimize equipment downtime.
- Train mechanics on safety protocols, technical skills, and use of diagnostic tools.
- Ensure compliance with safety regulations and company policies.
- Manage parts inventory, including ordering and tracking to support the maintenance schedule.
- Prepare maintenance reports and communicate any equipment status updates to management.
- Assist in the hiring and performance evaluation of mechanics.
Requirements
- Valid Guam Driver’s License.
- 5+ years of experience with heavy equipment repair and maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or lead role.
- Preferred: T Series ASE Certifications.
- Advanced knowledge of diesel engine diagnostics, hydraulics, and electrical systems.
- Skilled in using diagnostic testing and tuning equipment.
- Strong leadership and communication skills to manage and motivate a team.
- Ability to read manuals, schematics, and interpret technical information.
