Description
This program offers the resident intensive training in the management of ocular disease and trauma, as well as pre- and post-surgical patient care. Residents have the opportunity to become proficient in the use and interpretation of visual fields, biometry, and Optical Coherence Tomography.
Essential Functions
Attend weekly didactic lectures with our staff doctors
Observe surgical procedures performed by staff ophthalmologists including, but not limited to:
- Cataract extraction
- Penetrating keratoplasty (PKP)
- Descemet's stripping automated endothelial keratoplasty (DSAEK)
- Refractive surgery such as LASIK and PRK
- Oculoplastic surgeries
- Minor office procedures
Requirements
Requirements
Typically has the following skills and abilities:
- Enrolled in a Doctor of Optometry (O.D.) degree program from an accredited college or school of optometry
- Passed NBEO Part I, II, and TMOD
- Eligible to obtain an optometric license to practice in Florida
- Ability to work on-call
Preferred Skills
- Ability to participate in the local county Optometric Associations
