About the Role

About the Role:

The Temporary Part-Time Shelter Staff position plays a vital role in supporting the daily operations of a shelter environment, ensuring the safety, comfort, and well-being of all residents. This role involves direct interaction with individuals seeking shelter, providing assistance, guidance, and support in a compassionate and professional manner. The staff member will help maintain a clean, organized, and secure environment while adhering to shelter policies and procedures. This position requires flexibility, strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to respond effectively to a variety of situations that may arise in a shelter setting. Ultimately, the role contributes to creating a supportive atmosphere that fosters dignity and respect for all shelter residents during their time of need.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to work part-time hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Basic computer skills for documentation and reporting.
  • Ability to pass background checks and comply with shelter safety standards.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience working in a shelter, social services, or related environment.
  • Training or certification in first aid, CPR, or crisis intervention.
  • Familiarity with community resources and support services.
  • Ability to speak multiple languages to assist diverse populations.
  • Demonstrated conflict resolution and de-escalation skills.

Responsibilities:

  • Greet and assist shelter residents upon arrival, providing information and support as needed.
  • Monitor the shelter environment to ensure safety and security for all occupants.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of common areas, sleeping quarters, and facilities.
  • Document resident interactions, incidents, and daily activities accurately and timely.
  • Collaborate with team members and management to address resident needs and resolve conflicts.
  • Assist in distributing meals, supplies, and resources to residents.
  • Follow all shelter policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure compliance and safety.
  • Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to the appropriate personnel promptly.
