JOB SUMMARY
The Health Care Administrator reports to the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer and is responsible for the oversight of Williamsburg Landing’s 44-bed licensed nursing facility, managing skilled care, long-term care, and therapy services for an average daily census of 42. The Health Care Administrator is responsible for implementing a resident-centered model of care delivery, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, and accreditation (CARF-CCAC) standards.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Provides leadership and direction to the overall operation of Williamsburg Landing’s Health & Rehabilitation Center.
- Supports the President/Chief Executive Officer and Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer in strategic planning initiatives, Board and resident relationships, and community and public relations
- Ensures compliance with federal, state, and local regulations, safety standards and practices, and CARF-CCAC accreditation standards related to the Health & Rehabilitation departments, as well as with Williamsburg Landing policies and procedures
- Supervises the operation of the contracted rehabilitation department; participates in annual contract negotiation and oversees contract compliance in coordination with the Executive Vice President/Chief Operating Officer
- Makes frequent rounds and maintains knowledge of resident care needs to ensure a high quality of resident care, emphasizing dignity and individuality
- Ensures the coordination of admissions, transfers and follow up/discharge care for residents meets regulatory standards and resident expectations
- Evaluates work processes and methods; staffing levels, qualifications and training needs; and tools, equipment, and physical resource needs; submits recommendations for continuous quality improvement
- Ensures that the departments are staffed with qualified and trained employees to meet the requirements of licensing and to maintain the level of service and care expected by residents and their families while balancing budgeted expectations.
- Oversees hiring process for managerial positions; ensures that necessary training is received; monitors and regularly evaluates job performance
- Ensures that staff receives a complete and comprehensive training to meet regulations, standards and organizational expectations that develops their professional abilities, and prepares them for growth opportunities
- Maintains positive interaction with residents, guests, and collaborative working relationships with other Williamsburg Landing employees; monitors the results of resident surveys and works with staff to improve the quality of service rendered.
- Reviews staff feedback through We Care Connect and ensures that responses are followed up on in a timely manner; analyzes trends and puts action plans in place if warranted
- Assists with development of, and is responsible for controlling, budgets for the Health & Rehabilitation Center including capital purchases
- Participates in the review, revision, and development of policies and procedures
- Supports the Director of Nursing in developing annual performance goals and departmental metrics; takes necessary action to ensure that goals are met
- Participates in staff, resident, and Board of Directors’ committee meetings as assigned and completes required reports in a timely manner
- Works closely with the Facilities Management Department to enhance utility and aesthetics of Health & Rehabilitation and improve quality of service and staff productivity
- Holds staff meetings on a frequent and ongoing basis to discuss goals, objectives, expectations, and initiatives and to obtain feedback
- Chairs the Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) Committee and assists in developing and implementing appropriate plans of action to correct identified deficiencies
- Assumes on-call responsibility and performs other duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in business administration or related field, preferred
- Five or more (5+) years of supervisory/administrative experience in long term care facility, preferred
- Current licensure as a Nursing Home Administrator in the Commonwealth of Virginia
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Comprehensive knowledge of state, federal and Medicare regulations related to nursing homes in the Commonwealth of Virginia
- Comprehensive knowledge of geriatric nursing and resident care standards, principles, and practices required in order to lead clinical and operational team members and evaluate resident care
- Current knowledge of senior living industry trends and the ability to interpret and apply these trends to current plans and projects at Williamsburg Landing
- Strong supervisory skills with the ability to motivate, train, and evaluate staff; skilled in resolving workplace conflicts and promoting teamwork
- Excellent organizational and administrative skills and the ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to maintain professional working relationships and work compassionately and professionally with employees, residents, prospective residents, family members, visitors, and the general public
- Ability to work as a team or independently and be self-motivated and goal oriented with shared accountability for results and confidentiality
- Ability to take initiative to solve problems on behalf of residents/prospective residents and employees and to exercise sound professional judgment appropriately in emergency situations
- Exceptional interpersonal and verbal and written skills, with the ability to productively communicate with residents, families, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Demonstrated experience in managing a budget
- Proficiency with Google Suite, Microsoft Word, and Microsoft Excel; demonstrated experience with electronic medical records and other systems instrumental to nursing home administration
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally
- Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift, as well as ability to move about the community to attend meetings, visit team members, and participate in or present at activities as needed.
