Job Summary:.
The Safety Specialist supports daily and weekly safety operations to ensure regulatory compliance, reduce risk, and maintain emergency readiness throughout the facility. This role focuses on executing safety inspections, maintaining environmental standards, supporting training initiatives, and driving continuous improvement efforts.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Execute the EP Master Safety Inspection List, including inspections of fire extinguishers, eyewash stations, AEDs, first aid kits, emergency lighting, alarms, and spill kits.
- Perform routine safety equipment inspections and accurately document findings.
- Ensure emergency equipment remains accessible, compliant, and fully operational.
- Maintain hazardous waste accumulation areas in accordance with company procedures, including proper labeling, container management and housekeeping standards.
- Maintain a visible presence on the production floor and engage employees in proactive safety conversations.
- Enter inspection data and action items into company safety systems and follow through to closure.
- Assist with incident investigations, follow-up actions, and preparation of Safety Incident Reviews (SIRs).
- Support audit preparation and participate in emergency drills as assigned.
- Execute assigned safety continuous improvement (CI) projects.
- Perform environmental housekeeping activities.
- Travel to Ironton, Ohio as required.
- Assist in the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) programs and procedures.
- Support management of the Safety Data Sheet (SDS) system and chemical inventory.
- Participate in site safety committees and support employee engagement initiatives across multiple shifts.
- Assist with development and delivery of safety training materials and learning modules.
- Review safety procedures and work instructions to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and operational practices.
- Participate in job safety analyses (JSAs) and risk assessments for new or modified processes.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications, Education and/or Experience:
- High school diploma or GED required
- Associate degree in a related field and/or EHS certification preferred, or willingness to obtain.
- Manufacturing or industrial experience preferred.
- Experience in safety, environmental, maintenance, or operations roles preferred.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to follow structured inspection processes.
- Ability to work independently in a production environment.
- Exercise professional judgment in identifying hazards, evaluating risk, prioritizing corrective actions, and resolving environmental, health, and safety issues in coordination with operations and leadership.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel) and capable of using company EHS compliance and reporting systems.
- Valid driver’s license required.
Required Certifications and Training:
(Current certification or willingness to obtain within a reasonable timeframe)
- OSHA 30-Hour Certification
- RCRA Training
- CPR/AED train the trainer Certification
- Fire Extinguisher Technician Certification
Physical/Mental Demands:
- Ability to wear required personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Ability to work in a manufacturing environment (including noise, temperature variation, and moving equipment)
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and changing priorities.
- Comfortable performing hands-on equipment inspections.
