Overview

Joby Aviation is seeking a motivated, hands-on Undergraduate Intern or Recent Graduate to join our Electromagnetic Effects (EME) Team for Summer 2026. This role is designed for those who want to build a foundational understanding of aerospace hardware and certification from the ground up. 

We are looking for a driven individual who is eager to learn through direct execution. You will start in the lab alongside our Senior Technicians to master the practical fundamentals of test setups and lab safety. As you build a solid foundation in the lab, your responsibilities will expand to include assisting with test procedures, cable drawings, and data review for critical aircraft systems.

Responsibilities

• Lab Execution & Support: Collaborate with Senior Technicians and Test Engineers to prepare complex EME test environments. This includes constructing setups to verify proper EUT (Equipment Under Test) operation during exposure to various electrical threats, troubleshooting everything from test stands and harnesses to the EUTs themselves. You'll also execute procedures using both custom-built and commercial laboratory equipment. 

• Test Documentation: Support the engineering team in drafting test procedures and reports. 

• Data Collection & Review: Monitor real-time testing to ensure data integrity and assist in the preliminary interpretation of results. 

• Standard Compliance: Internalize RTCA DO-160 standards and the engineering rationale behind EME protection and aircraft-level safety. 

Required

• Education: Currently pursuing a BS, or a recent graduate with a degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, or a related field. We are specifically seeking candidates who prioritize hands-on application and lab-based problem solving. 

• Technical Baseline: Basic understanding of RF principles and comfort using standard lab equipment (Oscilloscopes, Multimeters, Spectrum Analyzers). 

• Mechanical Aptitude: Comfortable using hand tools and building physical test setups. 

• Professional Curiosity: A strong desire to understand the "first principles" behind equipment operation and a willingness to ask for clarification to ensure technical accuracy and safety. 

• Resilience: The ability to stay focused and productive in a fast-paced lab environment where requirements can change quickly. 

Desired

• Previous experience with hobbyist electronics, robotics, or student-led engineering teams (e.g., Formula SAE, Design/Build/Fly). 

• An interest in or experience with high-voltage systems and aerospace safety-critical environments. 

Additional Information

The pay range for graduate interns with a Bachelor, Master, and/or Ph.D. degree is $5,550 - $7,800/ month, and for undergaduate students - $22.00 - $31.00/ hour.
