Description

SUMMARY: Under the direct supervision of the Head Start Manager, the Operations Specialist performs duties essential to the immediate and ongoing maintenance of AVCP’s Head Start Centers. The Operations Specialist will ensure that facilities are safe according to Federal Head Start regulations. This will be done through day-to-day communication with the Health and Safety Coordinator, and the Program Manager and through supervision of and communication with the maintenance personnel. The Operations Specialist will maintain updated facility assessments for Head Start centers in regions with a schedule for annual maintenance and repairs and manage the maintenance and repair projects within Bethel and in villages where Head Start services are located. 


PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS: Including the following and other duties as assigned.


  • Develop an in-depth understanding of the federal guidelines for operations and maintenance of Head Start centers and facilities. 
  • Perform annual facilities assessments of Head Start facilities in Bethel and in villages where Head Start services are located, in accordance with federal guidelines.  
  • Develop annual maintenance and repair plans for Head Start facilities in Bethel and in villages where Head Start services are located, based on the annual assessment. 
  • Coordinate preventative maintenance with staff in Bethel and in villages where Head Start services are located.
  • Develop an annual maintenance plan and budget for all maintenance and projects for all Head Start facilities.
  • Manage all facilities maintenance and repair projects of Head Start facilities in Bethel and in villages where Head Start services are located.
  • Travel at least quarterly to villages where Head Start services are located.
  • Work closely, in a team-oriented environment, with Program Manager, facility owners/representatives, Site Supervisors, Teachers, and others. 
  • Provide budget estimates and quotes to Program Manager for annual maintenance, repair, and projects. 
  • Maintain records of assessments, inspections, repair needs, plans, etc. and give verbal reports as needed. 
  • Manage travel logistics for maintenance and repair projects. 
  • Ability to demonstrate sound judgement and reasoning in situations pertaining to safety of staff and children. 
  • Ability to work well with various partners. 
  • Maintains strict confidentiality of client information. 


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBLITIES:

  • Directly supervise maintenance staff using one-on-one meetings, team meetings, and direct communication.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.
  • Develop and maintain a culturally sensitive work environment that encourages open two-way communication.
  • Ensure staff have the tools and training required to effectively do their jobs. 
  • Review and approve timecards.
  • Evaluate employee performance.

EDUCATION:

High school diploma or GED required. 


KNOWLEDGE AND COMPETENCIES:

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required.  

  • Must be willing to work flexible hours as needed. 
  • Have a minimum of 3 years of experience in managing facilities maintenance or at least 5 years of direct maintenance work experience.
  • Experience in supervising a maintenance crew is preferred.
  • Basic knowledge in using a computer, and Microsoft Office programs such as Outlook E-Mail, and Word.
