Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Perform research on repair parts, service procedures, and tool requirements.
  • Obtain parts and service quotes from commercial vendors for repairing automotive, construction, and heavy truck equipment
  • Use manufacturer parts and service manuals, electronic databases, and direct communications with dealers to identify and price parts and services. Accuracy in parts acquisition is essential to efficient shop operations and 95% accuracy on orders is required.
  • Perform limited aspects of supply chain management (e.g., inventory management, storage management, and property utilization) related to and in conjunction with maintenance, repair and local supply activities.
  • Maintain a storeroom with readily available parts to supply mechanics with common service items.
  • Recognize high and low inventory limits and manage in-stock numbers
  • Make recommendations to Government on ready access parts, storage numbers, based on rate of usage, acquisition timeline or demand.
  • Conduct logistics support associated with equipment maintenance including shop cleanliness.
  • Review mechanic information provided on worksheets and research sources of supply for repair parts required to complete maintenance and shop operations.
  • Be familiar with various manufacturer repair parts manuals, web sites, and parts listings available to locate supply sources
  • Conduct market research for parts via direct vendor contact, repair parts manuals, and internet-based information sources.
  • Document and present market research findings to a Government Purchase Card (GPC) representative for execution.
  • Maintain a storeroom with readily available parts to supply mechanics with common service items.
  • Use of Government owned vehicles for conducting market research, compare parts, and pick up ready to receive orders is authorized.
  • Ensure hazardous materials are stored and documented properly, Track inventory to provide timely information on restocking and determine correct amount of onsite material required to support both craft and vehicle maintenance.

Requirements:

  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license from their state of residency to operate motor vehicles
  • Have a minimum of four (4) years’ experience as a mechanic or repair parts clerk at a commercial or Government automotive shop, featuring multiple vehicle models to include construction, heavy truck, and automotive equipment.
  • Must have passed either the ASE P1 (heavy truck) or P2 (Automotive) exam or have been employed by a commercial automotive dealer or military maintenance facility where ordering repair parts for automotive and heavy equipment was their primary responsibility.

Preferred:

  • Experience in hazardous materials handling.
