Pinto Valley is an open-pit copper mine located at the west end of the historic Globe-Miami mining district of central Arizona, approximately 80 miles east of Phoenix. Pinto Valley has been in operation since 1972 and has produced more than four billion pounds of copper. Acquired by Capstone from BHP in 2013, the mine is fully permitted through 2039 and a study is underway to potentially extend the mine life through 2050.

POSITION OVERVIEW
The Project Control Specialist (PCS) supports project objectives by managing planning, scheduling, cost control, risk management, and performance monitoring. Working closely with the Project Manager, Construction Managers, and contractor project controls teams, the PCS ensures projects are completed on time, within scope, and under budget while maintaining quality and efficiency. This role also manages project cost reporting throughout the project lifecycle, reconciling costs with SAP.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
• Job Cost Management: Setup and maintain job cost reports, including budgets, commitments, forecasts, contingencies, and actual spends.
• Contract & Reporting Support: Collaborate with Project Manager to develop contract strategy, reporting requirements, and formats for contractors.
• Cost Tracking: Monitor costs by bid package, field order, and defined categories of change.
• Project Indicators: Setup and maintain visual project performance indicators and dashboards.
• Vendor Coordination: Work with contractors and vendors to validate cost proposals and progress accounting, including EAC, Spend to Date, Earned Value, and Remaining Funds by line item.
• Monthly Reconciliation: Perform monthly reconciliation of project cost reports.
• Cost Authorization & Cash Flow: Prepare and manage cost authorization packages; develop cash flow models for reporting and graphic presentations.
• Material Quantities: Summarize quantities of materials in an organized manner.
• Schedule Analysis: Review periodic CPM updates, provide Primavera schedule comparison reports, and analyze project health and schedule progress; identify critical path and three-week look-ahead highlights to inform potential schedule and cost impacts.
• Data Analysis: Perform qualitative and quantitative data gathering and analysis independently.
• Coordination & Forecasting: Work with project teams and contractors to assess reporting, identify potential delays, and develop accurate forecasts.
• Reporting & Visualization: Assist in report writing and create visual representations of project data.
• Continuous Improvement: Stay current with industry practices and project control methodologies.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, construction management, or related discipline, or equivalent experience
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in project controls
• Experience with critical path method analysis using Primavera and MS Project
• Ability to review, validate, and analyze contractor schedules for compliance with contracts and industry best practices
• Experience working with cross-functional teams
• Effective reporting, communication, and presentation skills
Preferred
• Advanced knowledge of project cost management and reconciliation processes
• Experience developing project cash flow models and visual dashboards
• Familiarity with SAP project cost systems
WORK ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL DEMANDS
• Primarily office-based with some interaction on construction sites
• Extended periods of computer and desk work
• Occasional walking in operational and construction areas
• Ability to manage multiple priorities and tight project deadlines
