About the Role

 ** Schedule: Tuesday - Saturday, 8:00 am - 5:00pm **    


POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Resource Center serves the community to provide information and resources needed to achieve the organization's mission of Food for Better Lives. The Community Resource Representative is responsible for following the organization’s Food Framework and overseeing the daily operations of the Community Resource Center while maintaining a welcoming environment for all. The Community Resource Representative works to help design, develop, and lead initiatives and cultural awareness that blend food distributions with nutrition education, and resource navigation services to improve the overall health of community members.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  1. Provides exceptional service to neighbors assisting in a respectful and compassionate manner.
  2. Oversees program and partner operations in the Community Resource Center ensuring compliance with regulations, policies, and procedures at all times.
  3. Ensures the pantry remains stocked and prepared for daily operations, including rotating products and keeping the community resource center areas clean. This includes inventory best practices in recording incoming/outgoing items and rotating products to minimize waste.
  4. Assists with compiling monthly metrics.
  5. Prepares regular reports on pantry activities.
  6. Ensures educational resources and community resource materials are consistently incorporated throughout the pantry and are easily accessed by the community.
  7. Maintains all Community Resource Center and warehouse assigned storage areas clean and safe following sanitation guidelines.
  8. Ensures equipment is maintained.
  9. Greets, trains, and supervises volunteers, as needed.
  10. Assists with projects geared directly to the Community Resource Centers’ efficiency and effectiveness. 
  11. Communicates clearly and effectively while leading and contributing as a productive member of the team. 
  12. Provides support to other team members with relevant tasks and contributes to problem resolution on different projects. 
  13. Attends relevant meetings, adheres to deadlines, and participates as a vital member to collectively advance organizational, departmental, and team-level objectives.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.


Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Experience:

  • High School Diploma from an accredited school or general education development (GED) certificate
  • 2 + years of customer service experience 
  • Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations:

  • Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver’s license, and insurance.
  • Must have the ability to be forklift certified.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

The physical requirements described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required daily to analyze and interpret data, communicate, and remain in a standing or stationary position for a significant amount of the workday; and often access, input, and retrieve information from the computer and other office productivity devices. The employee must regularly move about the facility, use hands, wrists, and fingers to grip, type, and write. The employee must frequently lift 40 pounds. The employee will need to have the average ability to hear horns, warnings, and alerts associated with a warehouse.  

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While the job is generally performed in a pantry and office environment, the employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, strong food-related smells, and outside weather conditions. The employee will be exposed to loud/elevated noises throughout the workday.

TRAVEL REQUIRED:

Travel is required for this position (up to 5% of the time and on a domestic basis in a personal vehicle). 


This role supports hours of operations at the Houston Food Bank facilities, as necessary, and may require flexibility (e.g., times of disaster, community events, company events).
