About the Role

Description

POSITION PURPOSE: The Certified Medication Assistant performs the duty of administering all non-injectable medication to the residents.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:

  • Reports to charge nurse on duty. 
  • Provides and ensures appropriate administration of oral medications in accordance with 
  • Follow Care Plan and Physician’s orders to insure optimum of resident comfort and health.
  • Maintains current knowledge of medications administered and manner of administration.
  • Supportive of established philosophy, objectives, policies and procedures.
  • Informed of resident’s health history and current conditions(s).
  • Reports resident change of condition in accordance with established policy and procedure.
  • Practices basic infection control techniques.
  • Assures medical and medicine supply levels are maintained and readily available.
  • Knowledgeable and supportive of resident care plan goals.
  • Maintains confidential nature of work.
  • Keeps medication room organized and tidy.
  • Administers food, fluids and nourishment supplements.
  • Supports mealtimes as needed.
  • Cooperates with other departments and care providers in the delivery of resident care.

Requirements

QUALIFICAITON REQUIREMENTS:


Successfully completed an Oregon State Board of Nursing approved training program for the administration of non-injectable medication. Reads, speaks and writes the English language. Performs detailed assignments, works under pressure and relates positively to residents, staff and visitors. Written evidence of current CPR training is on file.


PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Able to ambulate, bend, stoop, kneel, squat and move a maximum of 40 pounds during routine care of an assigned Group of Residents for an 12-hour shift. Visual and auditory activity within normal limits with or without prosthetics. Frequent walking. Push and pull wheelchairs and other equipment occasionally. Must function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel and support agencies and maintain a calm environment.
