About the Role

Your role at St John of God Subiaco Hospital

St John of God Subiaco Eye Hospital is currently seeking experienced Theatre Orderlies to work within our busy facility on a casual basis.

You will be responsible for safely transport, assist and lift patients to and from the Operating Suite and within the Operating Rooms and other Units as required. In addition, you will support the medical and nursing caregivers by undertaking selected cleaning duties within the Operating Rooms and messages as required.


The position

  • Participate in care of patients under supervision of nursing caregivers.

  • Transport patients on trolleys and beds.

  • Assist in positioning and transferring patients.

  • Ensure patients’ dignity and privacy is maintained.

  • Hold patients’ limbs during preparation for surgery.

  • Support patients during insertion of epidurals.

  • Assist PACU caregivers with positioning patients.

  • Demonstrate courteous communication to all customers.

  • Ensure a bed is located adjacent to theatre at all times during a patient’s procedure.

  • Responsible for correct set up, delivery and storage of operating tables.

  • Assist with collecting and transferring instrument carts.

  • Change bed linen and deliver blankets when requested.

  • Clean theatre tables between cases.

  • Assist with setting up theatres with correct equipment/furniture according to requirements for each list.

  • Clean Image Intensifier and lead aprons after use.

  • Assist with transporting equipment from the theatres to the utility room including rubbish and linen.

  • Push linen skip with correctly attached bags back into theatre.

  • Ensure an adequate number of flat top trolleys are present as required in set up rooms.

  • Return bowel stands and buckets to theatres.

  • Transport equipment within department as required.

  • Transport carts, tubes, kidney dishes etc back to CSSD.

  • Equipment transfer from wards to PACU.

The successful candidates are required to safely transport, assist and lift patients to and from the Operating rooms. You will also be required to support the medical and nursing caregivers by undertaking additional duties include cleaning and re-stocking supplies and equipment regularly.

  • Casual: $39.25 to $41.12 per hour (inclusive of casual loading) plus 12% superannuation
