Overview

Mendocino Forest Products Company, LLC (MFP) is seeking experienced Electricians to join their maintenance team in Ukiah, CA! This is a non-exempt position at an hourly rate of $34.99-$43.65 (Apprentice - Journeyman) depending on your level of experience.

The Mendocino Companies (Mendocino Forest Products Company, Mendocino Redwood Company, Humboldt Redwood Company, Humboldt Sawmill Company, and Allweather Wood) own nearly 450,000 acres of Forest Stewardship Council® (FSC® C031337) certificated redwood and Douglas-fir timberland, constitute the largest waterborne wood treater in the Western USA, and is the largest producer of redwood lumber in the world. Responsibilities

The Electricians contribute to the overall function and performance of all onsite facilities. Sawmill and wood processing operations are highly dependent on automated processes, of which an Industrial Electrician is essential. Your job is to ensure quick turnaround in the event of component failure as well as planning and execution of maintenance tasks, site improvements, and machinery optimization related to the electrical trade.

 

The key responsibilities listed below are indicative of the work performed across all levels of experience within this role. There are additional duties that may apply for the more experienced Electricians

 

  • Repair faulty equipment or systems
  • Implement electrical safety standards as required by NFPA 70. (National Fire Protection association- National electric code)
  • Maintain and repair high voltage equipment and power lines 
  • Organize and manage large electrical projects 
  • Troubleshoot and repair Electrical Control Systems 
  • Troubleshoot and set up VFD’s
  • Plan new or modified installations to minimize waste of materials, provide access for future maintenance, and avoid unsightly, hazardous, and unreliable wiring, consistent with specifications and local electrical codes
  • Prepares sketches showing location of wiring and equipment, or follows diagrams or blueprints, ensuring that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings, and flooring
  • Measures, cuts, bends, threads, assembles, and installs electrical conduit
  • Pulls wiring through conduit
  • Splices wires by stripping insulation from terminal leads, twisting or soldering wires together, and applying tape or terminal caps
  • Connect wiring to lighting fixtures and power equipment
  • Installs control and distribution apparatus such as switches, relays, and circuit-breaker panels
  • Connects power cables to equipment, such as electric range or motor, and installs grounding leads
  • Tests continuity of circuit to ensure electrical compatibility and safety of components with testing instruments such as ohmmeter, battery and buzzer, and oscilloscope
  • Observes functioning of installed equipment or system to detect hazards and need for adjustments, relocation, or replacement
  • Assist in parts organization, ordering and management 

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 2-4 years related experience and/or two years electrical technical craft training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Experience with troubleshooting variety of electrical faults (motors, wires, etc.)
  • Basic math, algebra and geometry
  • Basic computer skills; Word and Excel
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in the English language
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be eligible to operate a company vehicle under company policy guidelines

Electrician 1 or Journeyman Qualifications:

  • Four years related experience and/or two years electrical technical craft training; or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Exceptional troubleshooting skills 
  • Familiar with Programmable Logic Controller and Software - PREFERRED
  • Familiar with Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) - PREFERRED

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision (e.g., inspecting machine components); Distance vision (e.g., monitoring operations); Color vision (e.g., identifying wire colors and indicator lights); Peripheral vision; Depth perception and Ability to adjust focus
  • The employee is occasionally required to detect odors, such as smoke, gas, or burning materials, that may indicate safety hazards.

  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet or humid conditions, as well as high, precarious places including catwalks, scaffolding, and elevated work areas.
  • The employee is also exposed to a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and snow, when working in or around outdoor areas of the facility.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually loud, requiring the consistent use of hearing protection in designated areas.
  • The employee is required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as mandated b company policy and OSHA Standards, which may include: Safety glassess or face shields, hearing protection, safety gloves, steel-toe safety footwear, hard hats and respiratory protection if necessary.
