Join the Ayás Mén̓men Child and Family Support Services Department as the Food Program Driver & Assistant, supporting food security and wellness for Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Elders, families, and community members. Rooted in snew̓íyelh (teachings), respect, and community care, this role ensures access to nutritious food, high‑quality produce, and reliable delivery services for those unable to visit the Food Pantry.
You will help maintain a state‑of‑the‑art hydroponic Growcer Unit, assist with Food Pantry operations, and provide regular food deliveries across the community. Your work supports the Nation’s dedication to safety, nourishment, connection, and culturally grounded care.
What You’ll Do
- Load delivery vehicles and provide regular, efficient food deliveries to Elders and community members.
- Review participant lists and plan delivery routes and service strategies.
- Pick up items from vendors as directed by Food Pantry staff.
- Unload incoming orders and deliveries to support Food Pantry operations.
- Support community events to promote Food Program services.
- Assist with receiving, unloading, and organizing food packets in storage areas.
- Rotate food items to maintain freshness and quality standards.
- Welcome program participants and complete check‑in procedures.
- Distribute food items and obtain participant signatures.
- Stock shelves, organize storage rooms, and support inventory management.
- Maintain food quality through sorting, reporting issues, and escalating concerns.
- Submit reports on distributed items and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Follow all workplace health & safety policies and procedures.
- Support Food Program operations across the Growcer Hydroponic Unit and Garden (training provided).
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
What We’re Looking For
- Valid BC Driver’s Licence (Class 4 or 5) and ability to spend full days driving for deliveries.
- Minimum 2 years of safe driving experience (ICBC abstract required).
- Ability to lift 30 lbs and perform physically demanding tasks (loading, unloading, moving boxes).
- Experience in gardening, farming, or hydroponic growing (knowledge of nutrients, fertigation, soilless systems).
- Experience cleaning, maintaining, and troubleshooting equipment; comfortable with hands‑on work.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with an adaptable, professional style.
- High emotional intelligence, patience, professionalism, and calmness under pressure.
- Strong organizational and time‑management skills; ability to maintain orderly inventory and storage areas.
- Ability to act with tact, diplomacy, confidentiality, and respect when serving community members.
- Intermediate MS Office and internet skills; ability to learn database systems (JD Edwards an asset).
- Experience working in a First Nations environment or with Indigenous communities (preferred).
- Completion of Grade 12 and willingness to complete training in gardening, farming, or hydroponics.

Salary: $46,883.20 - $61,500
Candidates are typically offered compensation between the beginning to the midpoint of the range. We are committed to providing a fair and equitable package that reflects the value an individual brings to the organization.
