Description
The CNC Laser Operator is responsible for the efficient and accurate operation of CNC laser cutting equipment to produce sheet metal components that meet ASC’s quality standards. This role requires proficiency in reading CAD drawings, loading CNC programs, setting up machines, and performing routine maintenance. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, safety-focused, and skilled in metal fabrication processes.
Key Roles and Responsibilities
- Program & Setup: Load CNC programs and CAD drawings into laser equipment; configure machine settings for production runs.
- Operation: Operate CNC laser cutting machines to process sheet metal components per specifications.
- Quality Control: Inspect finished parts using precision measuring tools (calipers micrometers, gauges) to ensure dimensional accuracy and edge quality.
- Maintenance: Perform routine and preventive maintenance (clean optics, replace filters, check alignments) to maximize machine uptime.
- Safety & Compliance: Follow all safety protocols, including PPE use and proper material handling; maintain compliance with company standards.
- Workflow Coordination: Communicate with supervisors, programmers, and material handlers to ensure smooth production flow.
- Material Handling: Load and unload sheet metal using forklifts and overhead cranes.
- Documentation: Accurately record production data, material usage, and quality metrics.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area in accordance with 5S principles
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Machine Uptime: 95% operational readiness.
- Quality: Scrap/rework rate 2%.
- Efficiency: Meet or exceed daily/weekly production targets.
- Maintenance: Complete scheduled maintenance 100% on time.
- Safety: Zero safety violations or incidents.
- Workstation: Maintain cleanliness and organization to 5S standards.
Requirements
Experience and Qualifications Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum 2 years of CNC laser operation experience (Amada, Trumpf, Mazak, or similar).
- Ability to read blueprints, CAD drawings, and technical specifications.
- Knowledge of metal types, thicknesses, and cutting characteristics.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
- Familiarity with precision measuring instruments and quality control procedures.
- Basic computer literacy for program loading and data entry.
Preferred:
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication or industrial manufacturing.
- Knowledge of nesting software.
- Forklift certification.
- Experience in lean manufacturing environments.
Physical Requirements
- Lift up to 50 lbs. and stand for extended periods.
- Manual dexterity for material handling and machine operation.
- Ability to work in a noisy, hot, and dusty fabrication environment.
Work Environment:
- Industrial manufacturing floor with exposure to machinery and fluctuating temperatures.
- Must wear PPE and adhere to all safety protocols.
- Fast-paced production environment requires attention to detail and teamwork.
