About the Role

Description

The Dock manager  will perform a variety of tasks that include supervising Dock employees at our Kasilof dock location located on the Kenai Peninsula. In addition, this position will be responsible for overseeing the unloading and loading of vessels, barges and skiffs at the Homer location.


Responsibilities:

  • Supervise the Homer dock location.
  • Help manage our Kasilof dock and yard operations.
  • Manage the shipping & receiving operations.
  • Coordinates shipping and receiving and dock delivery schedules, ensuring proper supplies and crew are available at any given time to facilitate operations.
  • Communicates department needs to subordinates for managing crew.
  • Works directly with Plant Manager and Dock Manager to establish and implement operational protocols.
  • Help in the training of dock staff to ensure safe and efficient operations.
  • Responsible for record keeping of all incoming and outgoing product. Recording weights, accurately.
  • Coordinates all vessel delivery/offloading schedules and necessary reporting requirements.
  • Responsible for ensuring dock operations meet environmental and safety regulations and policies.
  • Responds to change productively and handles other duties as required.
  • Continually follows Company policies and procedures.
  • Work with Corporate Safety Director to insure adherence to company safety policies and procedures.
  • Develops long-term working relationships with employees, department managers and Plant Managers.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • 5+ years of experience in the Alaska seafood industry.
  • 5+ years of experience in crane operations.
  • Proven ability to manage employees and processes.
  • 5+ years’ experience/knowledge of automatic scales for weighing fish.
  • 3+ years of forklift operations.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license and be forklift certified.
  • Employee must have the ability to understand and follow all instructions and safety rules.
  • Must be able to motivate and lead a team.
  • Working knowledge of regulations that apply to Roe production.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Office skills (Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook).
  • Ability to work long hours, seven days a week, during the production seasons.
  • Consistent and reliable attendance is an essential function of this position.

Salary and Benefits:

  • The starting wage is $22 - $25 DOE.
  • Free room and board

Work Environment:

  • Must be able to sustain a 12 hour per day/7 days a week work schedule for the duration of the season, approximately Mid May through late September.
  • The work environment is weather dependent: ranging from warm and sunny to cold, windy and wet. Working outdoors in a varying weather is a given in this position.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level is usually loud.

Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly requested to stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is occasionally requested to climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl, and must regularly talk and hear.
  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 25 lbs., and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 lbs.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include distance vision and depth perception
