Midwest Food Bank (MFB) is faith-based nonprofit organization with domestic and international operations. MFB operates with $95M in assets and an annual operating budget of $26M to distribute more than $556M in food and disaster relief supplies to 2,400 partner agencies.

JOB ROLE PURPOSE & SUMMARY:

The Officer position at MFB serves as an executive leader, overseeing one or more core functional areas (Finance, IT, Marketing, Fundraising, Communications, Operations, Safety or related disciplines) across the organization. Also, this role leads one or more divisional operations across Midwest Food Bank’s national footprint, ensuring scalable systems, disciplined processes, strong financial stewardship, and measurable impact.   The Officer will directly lead 5–8 senior team members and influence teams across all divisions.

This leader will sit at the Officer table and serve as a trusted member of the executive team, helping shape strategy, steward resources, strengthen operational excellence, while championing the culture. The ideal candidate is a proven leader of people with demonstrated functional expertise, capable of building high-performing teams while operating with humility, discernment, and a deep commitment to stewarding the mission. This leader must balance growth orientation with faithful dependence on God’s timing and guidance.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide executive leadership over assigned functional area(s), establishing strategy, structure, systems, and measurable outcomes.
  • Provide executive leadership over multiple locations of MFB operations, including efforts for people, finances, and operations.  Oversee collaboration & local execution of the strategy to ensure alignment, consistency, and operational excellence.
  • Lead, coach, and develop 5–8 direct reports; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
  • Serve as a member of the Officer team; contribute to enterprise-wide planning, budgeting, and growth initiatives.
  • Identify and implement scalable systems, technologies, and processes that support national growth through data-informed decision making.
  • Support organizational fundraising and donor engagement efforts, as applicable to the functional area.
  • Ensure compliance with nonprofit regulations, governance standards, and organizational policies.
  • Represent MFB with integrity in professional, ministry, and community settings as needed.


ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Model MFB’s six core values: Communities, Integrity, Safety, Service, Teamwork, Volunteers.
  • Foster a Christ-centered culture that reflects humility, service, and stewardship.
  • Develop strong partnerships across divisions and functional teams.
  • Participate in Officer-level planning, prayer, discernment, and strategic decision-making.
  • Recruit, interview, hire, develop, and when necessary, discipline or terminate staff in alignment with MFB policies.
  • Execute other duties as assigned by the CEO.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 10+ years of progressive leadership experience; executive-level experience preferred.
  • Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: Finance, Accounting, IT, Marketing, Fundraising, Sales, Operations, or related functional discipline.
  • Proven leader of people with experience building and scaling teams.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, Finance, Marketing, Nonprofit Management, or related field.
  • Strong strategic thinking, operational execution, and change management capabilities.
  • Demonstrated success in budgeting, forecasting, systems oversight, and performance management.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence board and executive levels.
  • Experience in multi-site or distributed organizations preferred.
  • Proficiency in enterprise systems, financial platforms, CRM tools (e.g., Salesforce), and Microsoft Office 365.
  • Commitment to the faith-based mission of Midwest Food Bank and alignment with its statement of faith.


WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Primarily office-based with regular interaction across divisional teams.
  • Periodic travel to division locations across the Midwest and nationally.
  • Occasional evening or weekend responsibilities tied to events, board meetings, or strategic initiatives.
