About the Role

Company Description

Launched in 2021 with a simple yet bold mission, Flink set out to give people back their most valuable resource: time. We didn't just join the quick commerce race, we defined its potential. By enabling customers to order from a curated selection of over 3,000 groceries and household essentials through our user-centric app, we deliver what people need in minutes. We have fundamentally shifted the retail landscape across Germany and the Netherlands, while embedding sustainability into our core through an all-electric delivery fleet, recyclable packaging, and a focus on reducing food waste.

Today, Flink has evolved from a disruptive startup into a resilient and sustainable powerhouse. In an industry defined by rapid change, we’ve mastered the balance of hyper-efficiency and massive scale. With a network of around 160 hubs, we now bring the Flink experience to more than 22 million people, making us an integral part of the urban infrastructure. This impact is driven by a dedicated team of more than 10,000 colleagues, including a fully employed rider fleet that serves as the backbone of our operations. By generating over €550m in revenue in 2025, we have proven that our model is not only desirable but financially formidable.

Having built a proven foundation, we are now shifting from establishing our presence to accelerating our impact. Backed by prestigious partners like Prosus, Mubadala, Bond, DoorDash, Btomorrow Ventures and REWE, and fueled by fresh investment, we are entering our next major growth phase. We are thinking bigger, expanding our footprint, and refining every link in our value chain.

Our culture is defined by a shared bias for action and the commitment to being 1% better every day. We take ownership, stay close to the frontline, and support one another to ensure we never let another Flinker fail. We celebrate diversity and believe that our multicultural team is our greatest competitive advantage.

Are you ready to shape the future of quick commerce with us?

We are creating a brand-new engineering domain: Revenue Technology (RevTech). This domain will own the full commercial technology stack that powers how the items in our assortment are selected for each hub, how they are priced, how promotions and retail media campaigns are managed, and how product data flows through the organization. It sits alongside our Consumer Tech, Operations Tech, and Platform domains.
As the Associate Director of Engineering for RevTech, you will be the founding engineering leader of this domain. Paired with our VP of Revenue, who leads the domain from the Product side, you will shape the technical vision, hire and grow the teams, and deliver the systems that directly drive Flink's gross profit and assortment relevance. This is a rare opportunity to build a domain from the ground up inside a company with real scale, real customers, and real urgency.

Job Description

  • Lead the RevTech engineering organization. You will inherit a small group of engineers transferring from existing domains and grow it into a cohesive, high-performing group across multiple product teams — including Assortment, Master Data & ERP, Pricing & Promotions, and Commercial Back-office;
  • Partner with the VP of Revenue to own the domain roadmap. Together you will prioritize across teams, balance build-vs-buy decisions, and ensure the engineering investment maps tightly to commercial outcomes like use-case coverage, GP per category, and pricing automation;
  • Hire and develop engineering managers and engineers. Several key roles — including an EM for Pricing & Promotions, backend and frontend engineers, and a data scientist — are open and waiting for you to shape and fill. You will also manage the relationship with an external development partner building some of our systems, ensuring quality, architecture alignment, and a clean path to internalization;
  • Drive technical excellence in a greenfield-meets-brownfield context. Some systems are being built from scratch; others are being transferred and evolved. You will define the technical strategy that brings coherence to this landscape — shared APIs, data contracts, service boundaries, and on-call practices across small but critical teams;
  • Navigate a matrix organization. Engineers functionally report into the CTO organization while being embedded in the RevTech domain. You will work closely with fellow Engineering Directors in Consumer Tech, Operations Tech, and Platform to maintain cross-domain standards, coordinate shared services, and ensure a consistent engineering culture;
  • Champion AI and automation across the commercial stack. RevTech's core mission is to optimize processes via intelligent systems — from data-driven assortment engines and automated pricing to product data enrichment and demand forecasting. You will identify where AI and machine learning can create step-change improvements, partner with our Data Science team to bring models into production, and foster a culture where the team continuously leverages AI to multiply its impact;
  • Represent engineering in commercial conversations. RevTech sits at the intersection of technology, category management, and revenue strategy. You'll regularly engage with non-technical stakeholders — Revenue, Marketing, Supply Chain — and translate their challenges into well-scoped engineering problems.

Qualifications

  • You will bring 3+ years of experience building multi-platform applications (web, mobile - iOS and Android, and backend);
  • In Addition, you will have 2+ years of experience as an engineering leader, mentoring and growing successful teams;
  • A bias towards action, with the ability to make the tradeoffs between delivering outcomes  and making things perfect;
  • Significant experience in applying different architecture patterns like microservices, event-driven systems, micro frontends, etc;
  • A strong interest in the business problems we are solving, and empathy with our users;
  • Adept at developing in one or more common programming languages such as Go, Kotlin, Swift, and/or JavaScript;
  • Being a good listener, but can also effectively communicate their perspective;
  • Highly self-driven, professional personality with an aspiration to excel in your role;
  • Capable of taking both the big picture and also getting into details when it is appropriate to do so;
  • Business fluency in English.

Additional Information

  • A €1000 annual L&D budget as well as individual coaching options to ensure you have plenty of opportunities to learn, grow and achieve your goals;
  • 26 days of vacation, +1 day every year up to a maximum of 30 days;
