Description
Under general supervision, but in accordance with established policies and procedures, the Loan Officer evaluates, authorizes, or recommends approval of consumer and home equity credit loans; communicates with and advises borrowers on financial status and payment methods, and performs quality control measures on loan packages to ensure fair, efficient and profitable lending services that serve the credit union’s overall loan objectives.
This is a full-time position (Monday thru Friday) and the ideal candidate will have the flexibility to work occasional community events (once or twice a year), must consistently uphold the mission, vision, and core values of the credit union, and possesses the ability to cope in a team focused, fast-paced sales and service culture.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Analyze applicants' financial status, credit, and property evaluations to determine feasibility of granting consumer and home equity loans; improve loan application and documentation by conducting productive interview sessions and informing members of additional requirements
- Assist members and potential members in understanding and utilizing Credit Union products and services and make suggestions on which loan products could better suit member’s needs
- Respond to questions and/or provides information upon request from members (internal and external) and process requests/transactions, as appropriate
- Approve loans within discretionary limits as determined by the Director of Lending
- Maintain loan documentation in member file, ensuring all policies and procedures of the Credit Union are followed; update loan records such as changing payment schedules or updating due dates as required; and audit files to insure that all required documents are present and accounted for
- Utilize tact and experienced-based knowledge to resolve consumer lending problems by explaining specific policies and products, while representing the Credit Union in a professional manner and maintaining positive member relations
- Assist Universal Service, Call Center and Digital Service Reps on any member loan questions
- Assist Operations Specialist with incoming titles from MVA
- Perform other Lending and administrative duties as assigned by the Director of Lending, to include report monitoring, etc.
- When necessary, Operates as back-up Loan Servicing Specialist on an as needed basis; including filing of Gap claims, Dept protection, life and/or disability claims, State National CPI, and death accounts
Requirements
- Requires High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Minimum 3 years lending experience, loan support, loan processing and/or underwriting experience required. Previous credit training preferred
- Demonstrated knowledge of credit union lending policies and procedures
- Requires basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel
