We are seeking a Director of Shelters & Housing to lead our shelter and housing programs and play a key role in advancing our mission.
About the Role
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Director of Shelters & Housing provides leadership across multiple shelter and housing programs, including emergency shelters and transitional housing.
This is a senior leadership role responsible for ensuring programs operate safely, effectively, and in compliance with all regulatory and funding requirements. The Director leads a team of managers and supervisors in a unionized environment and works closely with internal departments and external partners, including the City of Toronto.
This role requires a balance of strategic thinking and strong operational leadership in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and oversight of shelter and housing programs across multiple sites
- Ensure high-quality, safe, and accessible service delivery for clients
- Lead program managers and supervisors, supporting performance, accountability, and team development
- Oversee labour relations matters, including collaboration with union representatives
- Ensure compliance with all applicable standards, legislation, and funding requirements
- Lead incident response and support teams through complex operational challenges
- Manage program budgets, including planning, monitoring, and resource allocation
- Provide strategic oversight of funding and reporting activities, working with the Fundraising and Resource Development Manager
- Build and maintain strong relationships with funders, community partners, and system stakeholders
- Represent CONC within the Toronto shelter and housing system
- Collaborate with internal teams including HR, Finance, and Operations to support effective service delivery
What You Bring
- 10+ years of leadership experience in social services, housing, or a related sector
- Experience managing multi-site programs in complex, high-pressure environments
- Experience working in a unionized environment
- Strong understanding of homelessness, mental health, and community-based service delivery
- Proven ability to lead teams, manage competing priorities, and make sound decisions under pressure
- Experience working with government funders and navigating complex systems
- Commitment to equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed approaches
