About the Role

Description

The Maintenance Manager provides leadership to the Maintenance Department and ensures all machinery is repaired and maintained during each shift. The role also ensures that facilities, equipment, and systems are maintained in dependable condition. The Maintenance Manager ensures the efficient manning of equipment, while keeping machines at optimal operating conditions, reviews quality of work, and stays vigilant regarding safety during continuous operation of equipment. The Manager also diagnoses and corrects sources of equipment failure and poor performance by following established trouble-shooting procedures.


JOB FUNCTION/PURPOSE

  • Manages the ordering of parts.
  • Manages inventory.
  • Forecasts equipment needs and budgetary requirements on an annual basis.
  • Acquires quotes from vendors for parts and equipment.
  • Receives, manages, and stages received parts.
  • Reviews completed work orders.
  • Checks work progress on all maintenance personnel.
  • Monitors production equipment operation to ensure safety features are used.
  • Makes recommendations to improve machinery operating performances.
  • Recommends and ensures implementation of preventative maintenance schedules.
  • Evaluates employee performances and determines employee development needs.
  • Takes disciplinary action when needed.
  • Participates with new hire trainings.
  • Implements processes as needed with documented training forms and literature.
  • Teams with Maintenance Supervisor to meet objectives for department Destination Model.
  • Repairs and modifies machines in accordance to OSHA requirements.
  • Coordinates manpower assignments and sets work priorities.
  • Assigns and schedules work.
  • Communicates with production staff to ensure efficiency of operations.
  • Trains, supervises, and evaluates assigned employees. 
  • Communicates equipment needs to Maintenance Manager. 
  • Performs related work as required. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned by Management. 

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & COMPETENCIES

  • 3 years of Maintenance Supervision. Considerable experience in the repair and maintenance of industrial equipment and machinery. 
  • Considerable knowledge of mechanical and electrical maintenance, millwright knowledge, repair and operation procedures.
  • Ability to identify equipment problems and apply trouble-shooting procedures in diagnosing the cause of equipment failures or needed repairs.
  • Ability to operate on a strategic level. 
  • Ability to work and communicate effectively with subordinates and other departmental representatives.
  • Ability to train, supervise, motivate and evaluate assigned employees. 
  • Hands-on maintenance experience (equipment, facilities, troubleshooting).
  • Leadership & people management
  • Preventative maintenance systems experience (CMMS)
  • Safety & compliance knowledge (OSHA, etc.)
  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical, Electrical or related field preferred but certainly not required. What matters most is experience.

  • Up to 25% travel required.
  • Physical and Environmental Requirements: While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand and sit. The employee is occasionally required to walk and reach with hands and arms. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and color vision.
  • Work environment includes front-office and manufacturing in California. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
