The Opportunity

Our Springhill - Port Kembla Manufacturing facility is looking for a Mechanical Technician in our Paint and Finishing Maintenance team based in Springhill - Port Kembla. As a part of the broader Australian Steel Products portfolio, we have six major manufacturing sites at Port Kembla that deliver a variety of products, innovative solutions and services to our export and domestic customers.

The painting and finishing department at Springhill is the final process in the manufacture of COLORBOND®, where coils of steel are painted with our world leading Colorbond coating process and then packaged and despatched to our Australian & International customers.

In this hands-on position, you will ensure that equipment is maintained to the highest standards to meet our objectives for safety, quality, and reliability. You will apply your mechanical fitting skills and experience to complete both complex and routine maintenance tasks, with a focus on improving our equipment performance and reliability by understanding plant and equipment condition and then implementing corrective actions to restore as required.

What will you do?

You will apply your technical expertise to ensure that all mechanical equipment is maintained, as well as assisting with other Paint Finishing Department tasks. You will:

  • isolate equipment and perform preventative and corrective maintenance   
  • inspect production and quality critical equipment and fault find
  • resolve issues and fix any non-conformances 
  • seek ways to continuously improve our maintenance practices and strategies  
  • provide supply, stock and purchase requisitions, schedules, work orders, and parts listing via the use of the computerised maintenance management system (SAP) 
  • step up as acting supervisor when the maintenance co-ordinator is on leave

More About You

You will be motivated and have a strong technical background with the ability to work effectively and flexibly in a team environment. You will also have:

  • fitting/machining trade qualification
  • experience in a manufacturing or heavy industrial environment conducting a maintenance function 
  • experience working both independently and as part of a manufacturing team 
  • willingness to learn our computerised maintenance systems
  • strong attention to detail with the ability to resolve issues effectively and efficiently 
  • a commitment to your own safety and wellbeing and care for others
