Cannery Hall is one of the largest independent and one of the few independent music venues in Nashville. Many of today's biggest stars, songwriters and working musicians, would not have gotten their big break if it wasn't for independent music venues like ours. The Director of Hospitality Accounting functions under the supervision of and in coordination with the Controller. This position manages all aspects of the venue’s accounting activities, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and bank reconciliations. This person is also expected to provide timely and accurate financial reporting, forecasting, and analysis.


NOTE: This position does not offer relocation. All candidates must live in the Nashville market. We are looking for an accounting professional with experience in and passion for the hospitality (e.g., restaurant or hotel) and/or music entertainment industry that will perform this on-site role requiring daily presence in the office.

 

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Manages all accounting functions including but not limited to accounts receivable, accounts payable, payroll, and purchasing.
  2. Codes invoices, sets up new accounts, and reconciles accounts.
  3. Verifies and completes payment of invoices associated with accounts payable and ensures payments are charged to the appropriate accounts.
  4. Maintains general ledger; enters all appropriate journal entries. 
  5. Prepares and presents financial statements and related reports, including but not limited to monthly balance sheets, income statements, cash-flow reports, budgets, profit and loss statements, and variance analysis.
  6. Reconciles bank accounts, verifies deposits, and addresses inquiries from banks. Manages cash for venue and ensures departments (e.g., food & beverage and box office) have cash for operations. 
  7. Reviews financial details from past, present, and forecasted operations; identifies development opportunities and improvements that can be made. Recommend benchmarks that will be used to measure the company’s performance.
  8. Directs budget preparation, reviews budget proposals, and prepares necessary supporting documentation and justification for proposed budgets. Produces the annual budget and forecasts; reports significant budget differences to management.
  9. Reviews and files appropriate sales taxes quarterly through TNTAP.
  10. Coordinates annual independent audit and preparation of annual tax documents. Works with external auditors and tax accountants by providing needed information for the annual audit and tax returns.
  11. Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
  12. Maintains knowledge of organizational procedures, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards.
  13. Coordinates with software vendor to maintain accounting software systems. 
  14. Maintains knowledge of artist deal structures and supports their fulfillment at the time of settlement. Administers & assists others with settlement as assigned.
  15. Ensures that reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) standards. 
  16. Assists with special projects as required.
  17. Performs other related duties as assigned by management. 


 

 

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:


Experience Required


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • 3+ years of related experience in the hospitality and/or music entertainment industry; must have experience with accounting for private events, food and beverage, multiple revenue centers under one roof.

  8. Excellent knowledge of data collection, data analysis, and evaluation. 
  9. Proven leadership and business acumen skills.


 

Physical Requirements:

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Visual acuity to operate computer, read reports on a screen and use a keyboard.
  • Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
  • This is an on-site role requiring regular, in-person presence at the property; this position does not allow for remote work
