SUMMARY
The City of Edgewater is seeking a part-time Youth Sports Instructor to supervise, instruct, referee, and organize practices and games for our youth sports programs, which include, t-ball/baseball, soccer, basketball, flag football, volleyball, track & field, and cross country. Practices will take place at various locations throughout the City of Edgewater. Games and competitions may be held in Edgewater or at sites across the metro area, including Lakewood, Wheat Ridge, and surrounding communities.This position must work well and independently with young athletes (aged 4-12), while providing excellent customer service to parents. The Youth Sports Instructor will work 2-15 hours per week; dependent on the season, competition schedule, and number of teams directly responsible for. Candidates with flexible schedules are desired as the workflow varies to provide proper coverage and meet organizational needs. Travel to weekend games may be required.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include, but are not limited, to the following:
· Design and execute practice plans that are age and skill appropriate for the team being coached.
· Set up all equipment necessary for practices and competitions.
· Be present and lead the team(s) at scheduled games, which may include weekends.
· Referee other team’s games when not assigned to coach during competitions.
· Communicate effectively and efficiently with Programs Coordinator and Program Specialist.
· Maintain a safe environment for program participants.
· Familiarize yourself with the City of Edgewater Rule Book for all youth sports.
· Teach and explain the rules and regulations to parents and participants.
· Maintain a positive attitude, take initiative, and work as a cohesive team with all staff members to ensure efficiency and camaraderie.
· Responds to accidents or incidents according to procedures. Effectively handles emergency situations involving fire alarms, CPR and First Aid.
· Upholds City and Department policies and procedures as well as applicable laws.
· Maintains regular and punctual attendance.
· Participates in all training(s) and staff meetings as required.
· Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Programs Coordinator.
Requirements
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required.
1) Must have legal authorization to work in the United States of America.
2) Possess a valid driver’s license with the ability to safely operate a motor vehicle, provide proof of a safe driving record, and maintain a safe driving record.
3) Submit and pass a pre-employment background check with Edgewater Elementary and Jefferson County Public Schools.
4) Must be at least sixteen (16) years of age.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
· Basic verbal and written English language skills and grammar to reasonably communicate information with the public and/or complete relevant written documentation required by job activities.
· Spanish language skills, preferred.
· Excellent communication, customer service and problem-solving skills.
· The ability to perform multiple functions at once and the ability to handle the public in a friendly and professional manner.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
· Must possess or be able to obtain First Aid, CPR and AED Certification.
OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
· One year of youth sports coaching experience, preferred.
· Previous experience playing sports, preferred.
· Comprehensive understanding of youth sports gameplay, strategies, and rules.
· Patience and demeanor required to work with young athletes (ages 4-12)
· Ability to stand, walk, and jog for 45–60-minute increments.
· Outstanding customer service and interpersonal communication skills, to maintain effective working relationships with citizens, elected officials, appointing authorities, department heads, appointed boards, employees, and volunteers.
· Ability to work independently.
