Shade Hotel Manhattan Beach, the only luxury boutique hotel in the heart of Manhattan Beach, is seeking a dynamic, floor-driven Banquet Manager who thrives in a fast-paced, high-touch environment and leads with presence, precision, and polish. You don’t just manage events—you run the show.


This is not a back-office management role. This is a lead-from-the-front, in-the-action position where you will act as both Banquet Manager and Event Captain, ensuring every event is executed flawlessly from setup to final toast.


Position Overview

The Banquet Manager is responsible for the execution, leadership, and hands-on service delivery of all events on property. You will be physically present on the floor for every event, leading service, directing staff, engaging clients, and ensuring seamless coordination across all departments. You are equal parts leader, executor, and experience curator.


Key Responsibilities


Event Execution & Floor Leadership

  • Act as the Event Captain & Manager for all functions—personally overseeing service from start to finish
  • Lead pre-shift meetings, communicate event flow, and assign team roles
  • Maintain full command of the event timeline, service standards, and guest experience
  • Be visibly present and actively engaged on the floor at all times

Client Experience

  • Along with Service Manager, serve as the on-site contact for clients during events
  • Anticipate needs, resolve issues in real time, and elevate the guest experience
  • Deliver a polished, confident, and hospitality-forward presence

Team Leadership

  • Direct and motivate banquet staff, servers, bartenders, and support teams
  • Train staff on service standards and event execution protocols
  • Lead by example with a strong work ethic and service-first mentality

Operational Excellence

  • Oversee setup, breakdown, and room transitions for all property events
  • Ensure adherence to all service standards, safety, and cleanliness protocols
  • Partner closely with Culinary, Sales, and Hotel Operations teams
  • In conjunction with Hotel GM, responsible for hiring and onboarding & all new banquet staff
  • Manage team scheduling as well as payroll & rental staff as needed
  • Responsible for maintaining target labor % for events scheduling and noting for P&L
  • Keep accurate par levels & place orders for all event supplies, furniture, service items
  • Be present at all BEO meetings weekly
  • Keeping Setup and inventory SOP binders & files up to date as well as Banquet Report Log
  • Post Event P&L Proformas
  • Staff, Manage & take lead for all in house Holiday events such as Easter, Mother’s Day & Thanksgiving

  • A hands-on leader who prefers the floor over the office
  • A natural host with executive presence and attention to detail
  • Calm under pressure and thrives in high-volume, high-expectation environments
  • Passionate about creating memorable, elevated guest experiences

Qualifications

  • 3–5+ years of banquet or event management experience in a luxury hotel or upscale venue
  • Proven experience acting as an Event Captain or Floor Manager
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to lift, stand, and move throughout the duration of events
  • Flexible schedule including nights, weekends, and holidays
