The Harvest Forecaster is responsible for estimating product sales and coordinating all aspects of assigned commodities, with required travel to various harvesting locations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist the harvesting process daily
- Spends most of the workday rotating between commodity crews, checking packed cartons to ensure the Ocean Mist Farms’ quality standards are adhered to
- Assist the Senior Harvest Manager with yield updates and Reporting
- Assist the Senior Harvest Manager in coordinating with growers on last-field irrigation and spays
- Assist the Senior Harvest Manager in preparing harvest estimates and four-week volume projections
- Coordinate with sales on volume, condition, and daily orders
- Coordinate orders with the Senior Harvest Manager on crew placement and daily orders
- Distribute orders and changes to the Field Supervisors
- It is imperative to be present during the startup of new commodity areas
- Review variety trials and make recommendations to management
- Take pictures for marketing and sales purposes
- Other duties as assigned
Job Requirements and Qualifications
- Recurring travel to all harvesting areas as the harvesting operations required
- High school graduate or equivalent is preferred; requires continuing education to enhance job knowledge, supervision, safety & other job-related areas
- A minimum of 1 – 2 years in Quality Assurance is required; 3 – 5 years as a Commodity Manager or Supervisor is preferred; 1 – 3 years employee management experience is highly desired
- Must have ability to read, write, and communicate in English & Spanish at a fluent level
- Working knowledge of computers and software such as MS Word & Excel as utilized in an agricultural environment; 10-key calculator by touch, telephone, computer keyboard, fax, photocopy machine and other clerical and office equipment
- Working knowledge of Famous and other warehouse inventory control systems
- Valid class “C” California Driver’s license is required and must be insurable; ability to operate a motor vehicle
- Ability to look at a situation, interpret all facts and decide based on available information
- Ability to carry out defined procedures and duties with specific instructions; manage a project from its initiation to completion with minimal supervision; communicate verbally and comprehend verbal instructions; learn new duties with minimal repetition; maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, customers and peers
