Horizon Health is a Critical Access, Rural Health Facility comprised of 25-inpatient beds located in Paris, IL & a multitude of outpatient clinic settings including Family Practice and Specialty Clinics in Paris and surrounding cities. We have been serving residents of Edgar County since 1968 though community education, emergency services, and outpatient care. Position Summary:

The Medical Assistant assists the staff and providers in patient care and workflow. The medical assistant has administrative and clinical skills. Communicates with and assists in direct care of patients and families. Ensures timely flow of patients and assists the healthcare provider to provide optimal care to patients of all age groups. Possesses the knowledge and skills required to complete assignments at a proficient level. 

 

Essential Functions:

  • Understands role as part of the healthcare team and demonstrates technical skills related to the job. 
  • Applies computer concepts for office procedures. Updates computer skills to meet job requirements. 
  • Performs intake of patient office visits capturing historical and current wellness information including screenings.  
  • Can queue up orders and testing for authorized sign off.
  • Prioritizes incoming communications and results to manage the clinical workflows.
  • Assists with obtaining prior authorizations with insurance companies.
  • Accurately and completely documents onto the electronic health record and completes forms and requisitions as indicated. 
  • Obtain specimens and comply with appropriate handling guidelines. 
  • Follows all appropriate infection control procedures.
  • Knows and practices good customer service; demonstrates friendly and caring attitude toward patients and families. 
  • Good rapport with co-workers and medical providers. Works to create a pleasant work environment; to be viewed as an asset to the patient’s medical team. 
  • Responsible for the completion and proper documentation of point of care testing, if performed in department. 
  • Inspects and ensures physical environment for patient safety. 
  • Inventories supplies and communicates needs. 
  • Communicates with interdisciplinary services regarding patient needs as indicated utilizing behavioral standards. 
  • Actively listens and prioritizes patient requests.

Positions Requirements:

  • 18 yrs. or older
  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent
  • Current BLS or obtain within 30 days of hire.
  • Ability to work variable hours and/or float to another clinic location to meet organizational needs.
  • Possesses ability to perform complex and varied tasks in a fast-paced, changing work environment, subject to interruptions and stress in an organized and timely fashion. 
  • Ability to communicate verbally and in writing. 
  • Possesses basic computer skills. 
  • Ability to demonstrate appropriate clinical skills for the position. 

 

 

Pay Range:

Pay ranges from $15.250/hour to $20.979/hour (rate of pay is based on applicable years of experience)

Location: 727 E. Court Street Paris, IL 61944

Hours: Monday- Thursday 7a-5p
