Specialty Float Veterinary Assistant (Internal Medicine & Surgery) 1st Pet Veterinary Centers Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
About the Role: 1st Pet Veterinary Centers is looking for a motivated and adaptable Specialty Float Veterinary Assistant to support both our Internal Medicine and Surgery teams. This is a dynamic role ideal for someone who enjoys variety in their day, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and is passionate about delivering high-quality patient care.
As a float assistant, you’ll play a key role in supporting workflow, assisting with procedures, and ensuring both departments run smoothly. Your ability to shift between teams and anticipate needs will make a direct impact on patient care and team success.
Requirements
What You’ll Do:
- Support veterinarians and technicians with patient care across Internal Medicine and Surgery
- Prepare patients for exams, diagnostics, and surgical procedures
- Assist with safe and effective animal handling and restraint (fear-free techniques encouraged)
- Assist with anesthesia preparation and patient recovery under supervision
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain surgical instruments following hospital protocols
- Turn over (flip) surgical suites efficiently between procedures to maintain workflow and readiness
- Maintain clean, organized treatment and procedure areas
- Stock and prepare supplies to support daily operations
- Assist with diagnostics (lab work, imaging support, sample collection as directed)
- Help manage patient flow between departments to maximize efficiency
- Step in where needed to support the team during high-volume periods
What We’re Looking For:
- Previous veterinary assistant experience required (specialty or ER experience strongly preferred)
- Strong animal handling and restraint skills
- Ability to multitask and stay organized in a fast-paced environment
- Positive attitude and strong team-oriented mindset
- Willingness to learn and adapt across multiple specialty services
