What this opportunity involves:

The Assistant Facilities Manager – Residential Portfolio is responsible for supporting the Post Facilities Manager in the day-to-day delivery, coordination, and compliance of the Canberra based Staff Residential Property (SRP) portfolio.

The role acts as the primary operational lead for SRP activities in Canberra, ensuring properties are managed across their full lifecycle—from acquisition and onboarding through occupancy and exit—while maintaining strict compliance, safety, and service standards.

The Assistant Facilities Manager will also act as the key point of contact for government client staff and stakeholders in the absence of the Post Facilities Manager and play a central role in embedding consistent, controlled SRP delivery practices.

This role represents a critical operational function within the Australian government client portfolio, supporting staff experience, client confidence, and compliance integrity across the SRP portfolio.

Ideal Experience and Personal Characteristics

  • Knowledge of local health and occupational safety requirements

  • Knowledge of functionality of critical facilities

  • Knowledge of vendor management for specialised services

  • An understanding of fundamental technical aspects of property (Computer

  • Room Air-conditioning, Chiller system, Fire Protection system, Mechanical &

  • Electrical system, BMS system)

  • Proven capacity to understand and interpret commercial contracts

  • Strong budget management and financial analysis skills

  • Client focus & relationship management

  • Project management and organisational skills

  • Problem solving and strategic thinking skills

  • Security clearance
