Job Description

We seek a Geoscientist to support environmental site investigation, remediation, and regulatory compliance across a variety of sites and contaminants. You will spend a significant portion of time in the field performing sampling and overseeing subcontractors, while contributing to data evaluation, figures, and technical reporting.  This mid-level role emphasizes strong field execution, quality data management, and effective coordination with project managers, subcontractors, and laboratories.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform field programs for environmental site investigations, including soil, groundwater, and soil vapor sampling under established SOPs and quality protocols.

  • Support and oversee day-to-day drilling activities, well installation, development, purging, and sampling; document lithology and prepare detailed field logs.

  • Coordinate subcontractors (e.g., drillers, excavation, survey) and manage field logistics, equipment, and materials to meet scope, schedule, and safety requirements.

  • Execute groundwater gauging, NAPL characterization/recovery support, and O&M activities for remediation systems as directed by the project team.

  • Collect, preserve, and ship samples; complete chain-of-custody and field documentation; ensure data quality and adherence to SOPs.

  • Conduct data QA/QC, analyze and interpret environmental datasets, and prepare figures, cross sections, boring logs, and data summaries to support conceptual site models.

  • Contribute to technical deliverables (e.g., Investigation Work Plans, Monitoring Reports, Data Summary Memos, Remedial Action Reports) with clear, concise technical writing.

  • Support site health and safety implementation (JHAs, tailgate meetings, PPE use) and maintain a strong safety culture during all field activities.

  • Assist with waste characterization, profiling, and coordination of hazardous and non-hazardous waste disposal activities.

  • Communicate effectively with project managers, clients (as appropriate), laboratories, and agencies; track field progress, and flag issues early.

  • Maintain and calibrate field instruments; help improve field tools, checklists, and data workflows for efficiency and consistency.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Geoscience, Geology, Environmental Science, or related field AND 2 years of relevant experience in environmental consulting (site investigation, sampling, drilling oversight, data QA/QC, and reporting support) or a demonstrated equivalency of experience and education.

  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER (current) and ability to maintain annual refreshers.

  • Valid driver’s license, subject to a motor vehicle records check.

  • Successful candidate will have to pass a background check and a client administered drug assessment, along with a medical surveillance program.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Strong field documentation, data analysis, and technical writing skills; proficiency with Microsoft Excel/Word/PowerPoint.

  • Familiarity with federal and state environmental regulations and guidance (e.g., EPA, OSHA; state-specific programs as applicable).

  • Ability to perform fieldwork in varying weather and terrain, lift/carry field equipment, and travel as project needs dictate.

  • Master’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, or related discipline; or 3–5 years of consulting experience with increasing responsibility.

  • Experience with groundwater and vapor intrusion investigations, aquifer testing, LNAPL/DNAPL assessment, and remediation system O&M.

  • Working knowledge of environmental remediation technologies and best practices (e.g., mechanical recovery, SVE/AS, in-situ treatment).

  • Proficiency with tools such as GIS (ArcGIS/QGIS), gINT/ESlog, EQuIS, AQTESOLV, or groundwater modeling basics (e.g., MODFLOW) is a plus.

  • OSHA 30-hour Construction (current) and other relevant safety certifications.

  • Exposure to client communications, schedule/budget tracking, or small task coordination; ability to provide on-the-job guidance to junior field staff.

  • Familiarity with regional regulatory frameworks (e.g., NJDEP, NYSDEC, NYC DEP/OER) where applicable.
