The Machine Operator plays a key role in supporting maintenance and engineering activities at the Continental Products facility in Centralia, WA. This entry-level position involves assisting with machinery maintenance, participating in new product development, and addressing technical challenges. The operator will collaborate with both management and hourly employees to ensure efficient production of high-quality plastic bags, reporting directly to the Director of Operations.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Machine Operation:
- Operate and monitor machinery to ensure efficient production of plastic bags.
- Conduct routine checks to maintain optimal machine performance.
- Adjust machine settings as needed to meet production specifications.
- Maintenance Support:
- Assist the maintenance team in troubleshooting and repairing equipment.
- Perform preventive maintenance tasks to minimize production downtime.
- Help maintain inventory of spare parts and maintenance supplies.
- Product Development:
- Participate in new product development initiatives by providing insights on machine capabilities.
- Collaborate with engineering teams to suggest process improvements.
- Test new products and report findings to relevant teams for evaluation.
- Technical Assistance:
- Address technical challenges that arise during production and propose solutions.
- Document operational issues and communicate effectively with management.
- Assist in implementing corrective actions as directed by supervisors.
- Safety Compliance:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and procedures to ensure a safe working environment.
- Participate in safety training sessions and drills.
- Report any safety hazards or incidents promptly to management.
- Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with management and hourly employees to foster effective communication.
- Support team goals and contribute to a positive work environment.
- Participate in team meetings and share relevant updates or concerns.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of machine operations and production output.
- Report any irregularities or maintenance needs to the Director of Operations.
- Assist in compiling data for performance metrics and report
Minimum Qualifications:
- Basic understanding of manufacturing processes and machinery operation.
- Familiarity with safety standards and protocols in an industrial environment.
- Awareness of plastic bag production and related materials.
- Proficient in basic troubleshooting and problem-solving techniques.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members and management.
- Ability to operate machinery and tools safely and effectively.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Capacity to follow detailed instructions and adhere to production schedules.
- Previous experience in a manufacturing or industrial setting is required.
- Familiarity with basic computer applications for documentation and reporting.
High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical training is a plus.
Physical Demands:
- Standing and Walking: Regularly required to stand and walk for extended periods during machine operation and maintenance tasks.
- Lifting: Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally, including materials and equipment.
- Repetitive Motion: Frequent use of hands for operating machinery, adjusting settings, and performing maintenance tasks.
- Vision: Close vision required for monitoring machine operations and inspecting products.
- Stamina: Ability to perform tasks that may require bending, twisting, and reaching.
Work Environment:
- Industrial Setting: Work is primarily conducted in a manufacturing facility with exposure to moving machinery and equipment.
- Noise Level: Work environment may be noisy; hearing protection may be required.
- Temperature Variability: Exposure to varying temperatures, including cooler areas in production and warmer zones near machinery.
