About the Role
 

Summary of Position Functions:

Responsible for the safety and security of the students, staff and facility.


SCHEDULE: Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday 12:30pm-11:00pm and possible overnights.


Duties and Responsibilities will include: 

  • Patrolling assigned areas on campus while being alert for disturbances, safety hazards, traffic violators, suspicious acts, suspicious persons, and other unusual conditions 
  • Enforcing all authorized laws, rules, and regulations
  • Enforcing corporate, and center policies, procedures, rules, and regulations
  • Performing Building and property Safety and Security checks
  • Assist staff with extinguishing disturbances
  • Assisting staff and students in addressing issues including de-escalation of behavior, providing escort services as needed/as directed and monitoring activities via camera surveillance systems 
  • Receiving complaints and conducting appropriate preliminary investigations (training provided)
  • Performing traffic and parking control duties
  • Enforcing the center entry and pass policy

Skills & Competencies:

  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Knowledge of Law Enforcement Procedures
  • Basic knowledge of riot, and crowd control procedures and proven ability to appropriately intervene in/with physical altercations
  • Excellent interpersonal, meditation, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work with large groups of students, including students with special needs
  • Proficient with the use of common computer software such as Office 365 (Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook email, etc.)


Educational Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or GED 
  • Six months of experience in a security or security-related field
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record   
  • Must possess a NYS Security Guard Certificate, or acquire one within three months of hire

  • Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, two-way radio, and other office equipment 
  • Kneeling, bending at the waist, stooping and reaching overhead
  • Retrieving and storing files and supplies; occasionally carrying and, or lifting light objects
