The Glenview Public Library is seeking an enthusiastic and innovative Youth Services Community Engagement Librarian to join our team. In this role, you will help connect Glenview’s youngest residents and their families with valuable resources, enriching programs, and welcoming library experiences that support learning and growth.


The pay range for this position is $57,000 to $61,000 annually. Offers are made within this range based on competencies, experience, and internal equity.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead preschool-focused programming, including weekly storytimes, and plan large-scale early literacy fair and other events
  • Coordinate outreach services and resources for local preschools and childcare centers
  • Build and strengthen relationships with community partners to support early childhood initiatives
  • Design, implement, and evaluate engaging experiences in our new play space that encourages exploration and early learning and help refine future offerings
  • Plan and develop large-scale programs and events for young children and their caregivers

What You’ll Bring to the Role

Education/Experience/Qualifications 

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • A Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited program is preferred; candidates with substantial progress toward the MLIS (with graduation anticipated within one year) will be considered
  • A master's degree in Education, Instructional Technology, or a closely related field may be considered in lieu of the MLIS when accompanied by relevant professional library experience 
  • Candidates without a master’s degree must also possess a minimum of five (5) years of progressively responsible library experience working with adults or in a comparable role


Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to maintain and foster cooperative, courteous working relationships with a multicultural/multigenerational staff and patron population
  • Knowledge of products, services, and current trends and issues in library practices for youth
  • Knowledge of and interest in media, fiction, and nonfiction materials for youth
  • Successfully handles multiple tasks and projects simultaneously
  • Can listen, analyze, solve problems, and exercise good judgment when handling both routine and non-routine issues
  • Works independently and prioritizes tasks to meet deadlines
  • Adaptable to changes in existing practices, library routines, and workflows
  • Can operate a personal computer; has knowledge of ILS software, email, and Microsoft Windows 365
  • Ability to learn, instruct others, and perform basic troubleshooting on a variety of library technologies
  • Ability to adjust work schedule to support programming and outreach needs
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed
  • Ability to travel to off-site events, including securing reliable transportation; if driving, must possess a valid Illinois driver’s license and maintain proof of current automobile insurance
