POSITION: Head Start Childcare Center Kitchen Aide/Food Prep Worker

LOCATION: North Dade (NW 199th Street)


STATUS: Part-Time, 20 hours p/week, Monday thru Friday, Daytime hours, 10:00am to 2:00pm


NEW Rate of Pay: $15.00 per hour


*High diploma or GED required / MUST PASS LEVEL 2 BACKGROUND SCREENING TO WORK IN CHILDCARE CENTER


Responsible for assisting center and classroom teachers with meal preparation and distribution of all meals for the assigned center and aiding on an as-needed basis in the care and development of children enrolled in an early childhood center as well as maintenance of the classroom and the center, also responsible for the upkeep of the kitchen.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

Assists in the process of meal preparation and distribution of all meals and snacks for the Childcare Center. Places order for supplies as needed; deliver supplies to classrooms every Monday.

Recognizes health and safety hazards and protects children from harm. Protects the physical care and nurtures children in a clean, safe teaching environment that supports their needs for physical movement, sensory stimulation, fresh air, rest, and nourishment.

Inspects all food deliveries for accuracy. Follows strict handling procedures in food preparation, storage, cleaning and sanitizing.

Assures that thermometers are in all refrigerators and freezers and indicate cold storage at proper temperatures (Freezer = 0 degrees or below; Refrigerator = 40 degrees or below).

Assures that storage is adequate and properly arranged; cleaning supplies separate from food items, foods not stored on floor, and uses containers with lids at all times.

Maintains kitchen cabinetry, walls and equipment clean and in good repair, with no evidence of insect or rodent infestation Cleans and maintains the classroom and equipment on an as-needed basis.

Makes sure that waste containers have plastic liners and covers. Disposes of garbage including classrooms, kitchen, center public areas, and director’s office. Sweeps and mops kitchen, and common halls; and cleans adult bathroom as needed.

Helps complete timely, accurate reporting that can include but is not limited to attendance and program reports, daily meal counts, timesheets, leave requests, disbursement receipts and incident reports.

Develops and maintains cooperative, supportive relationships with center, staff, children and their families.

Qualifications

High diploma or GED required. Some experience in a routine mid-size food service environment is preferred; food handling, meal distribution a plus; some experience working around small children or in a child care facility preferred. Food handler certification desirable; DCF Child Care 45 hour training certification would be a plus; Certificate of good health and completed TB test. Required to have level 2 background check and drug test.
