Position Summary:
The assistant swim team coach's primary responsibility is to aid the swim team coach in conducting organized, positive practices along the guidelines of the Marion & Polk County YMCA’s Aquatic Department. Requirements
Essential Functions:
- Review and understand team level and logical coaching progression.
- Greet swimmers and parents prior to each practice and introduce yourself and develop member relations.
- Prepare workouts before practice time.
- Be ready for practice at least 15 minutes ahead of time.
- Assist in maintaining attendance records, showering, and securing equipment as assigned.
- Maintain proper care of equipment and facility.
- Be available for parent questions and comments. If rushed, arrange a convenient time for both to meet with head coach.
- Be consistent with YMCA Aquatic policy on discipline, class organization and team standards.
- Prepare for swim meets and practices.
- Attend all scheduled general staff meetings and trainings for your programs.
- Keep accurate time cards.
- Assist in the cultivation and training of volunteers.
- Keep certifications current and continue education.
- Maintain appropriate level of personal fitness and high level of competency in rescue techniques.
Physical/Mental Requirements:
- Must be physically capable of observing and listening for stressful situations at all times.
- Must be physically capable of lifting 40 pounds.
- Must be able to quickly reach a person and/or situation to prevent harm.
