About The Company
Founded in 1984, Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS) is the home of Arizona’s first senior emergency shelter program, serving individuals and families experiencing homelessness across the Phoenix metropolitan area. Guided by our values of accessibility, compassion, dignity, equity, and a housing-first approach, we meet people where they are — without judgment — and, through strong community partnerships, help bridge service gaps so every person we serve can take the next step toward stability and hope.
About the Role

Description

Be the First Step Toward Stability

At Central Arizona Shelter Services (CASS), every person who walks through our doors has a story — and a chance for something better. We’re looking for a compassionate, quick-thinking, and people-focused Client Advocate to serve as one of the first points of contact for individuals entering our shelter.

In this role, you’ll help assess needs, provide guidance, and connect clients to the right services — setting the foundation for their journey toward stability and housing.

If you’re someone who can balance empathy with action and stay calm in fast-paced environments, this role is for you.

What You’ll Do

As a Client Advocate, you’ll play a critical role in helping clients take their first steps toward stability.

You’ll:

• Conduct client screenings to assess needs, goals, and level of vulnerability
• Use standardized tools to determine appropriate shelter placement and services
• Create initial, individualized case plans with clients
• Provide referrals to internal programs and community resources
• Guide clients in accessing benefits, income supports, and essential services
• Offer walk-up assistance for urgent or immediate client needs
• Answer questions and help clients navigate shelter services and expectations
• Monitor changes in client needs and communicate updates to the team

You’ll be a steady, supportive presence during what can be a very uncertain time for the people we serve.

Advocacy & Impact

You’ll also:

• Advocate for client needs and ensure they are connected to the right resources
• Conduct follow-ups to support progress toward goals
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in client records
• Share client success stories that highlight real outcomes
• Collaborate with team members to ensure coordinated care
• Escalate urgent concerns to leadership as needed

Your work helps ensure every client receives timely, thoughtful, and effective support.

Who You Are

You may be a great fit if you:

• Communicate clearly and with compassion
• Stay calm and focused in high-energy or crisis situations
• Are solution-oriented and able to think on your feet
• Can manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
• Are confident navigating difficult conversations
• Believe in treating every person with dignity and respect

Experience in social services, shelter environments, or crisis response is a strong plus.

Work Environment

This is a client-facing role in a fast-paced shelter environment. You’ll be actively engaging with clients throughout your shift and working closely with your team to ensure smooth operations.

Schedule

Full-time position
Operations run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week

Schedules consist of four 11-hour shifts per week, which may include:

• Weekends
• Holidays
• Evening or overnight shifts

Why Join CASS?

Because here, your work matters from the very first interaction.

As a Client Advocate, you are often the first person a client connects with — and that moment can shape everything that follows.

If you want a role where compassion meets action and every day brings the opportunity to make a real difference, we’d love to meet you.

Join CASS and help people take their first step from crisis to stability.
