About The Company
Bergen Community College’s STEM Research Center is the central hub of our STEM Program, featuring top of the line research equipment and facilities. The STEM Research Center enables students to build skills and a community through our research program, workshops and STEM events. Each year BCC students have overwhelming success in our STEM Student Scholars (3SP) Research Program, utilizing the STEM Research Center to conduct faculty mentored research projects which benefit our society. About the Role

The primary role of the Instructional Designer is to work with faculty on the design and development of instructional materials and activities for different modalities of learning including online, hybrid, and on-campus; participate in course review process ensuring online courses meet quality standards, plan, coordinate and conduct training sessions to assist faculty in development and improvement of technology skills; engage in research on emerging technologies to improve teaching and learning. 


POSITION SUMMARY

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Collaborates with faculty and other departments to design, develop and support high quality online, hybrid and on-campus courses using College's Learning Management System. 
  • Evaluates online course design to meet the RSI, WCAG and Quality Matters guidelines. 
  • Develops, schedules, and advertises online and face-to-face training sessions and programs designed to encourage and facilitate participation from both full time and part time faculty. 
  • Provides technical and design consulting services for a wide range of applications and research-based teaching practices to promote active and collaborative learning. 
  • Designs develops and maintains a repository of on-demand and self-guided tutorials accessible to faculty and students. 
  • Keeps up to date on emerging technologies and support faculty with integration of learning technologies in their courses. 
  • Participates in faculty development initiatives designed to improve faculty preparedness in course design, delivery and assessment; research and disseminate best practices contributing to innovation in teaching and learning with technology. 
  • Research, evaluates, and implements AI tools that enhance accessibility and instructional design quality. Maintains an online repository of Model and Blueprint courses. 
  • Manages the operation and maintenance of faculty and staff training rooms. 
  • Collaborates on departmental and inter-departmental projects with the Office of lnformation Technology, Media Services, and Library in all three locations.


SPECIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant area of study required. 

Experience: Minimum of two (2) years of relevant professional experience working in the field of instructional design, learning science or related field in an academic setting. 

Other: This position may require working in the evenings and on some weekends.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Demonstrates understanding of the community college mission and practices an open door policy. Has basic proficiency in the use of the Microsoft Office suite. Exhibits strong skills in:

SALARY AND BENEFITS

  • $50,000-$60,000
  • NJ Educators Health Plan with free Vision and Dental. 
  • NJ State Pension plan.

  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • 15 vacation days, 15 sick days, 4 personal days, 2 floating holidays, all designated holidays and 5 non-designated holidays a year. 3 Partial Sick Days.
