About the Role

POSITION OVERVIEW:

The Tool Room Supervisor supports the day-to-day operations of Omex Manufacturing ULC by overseeing the Toolroom team, coordinating with multiple departments to ensure that new and existing equipment and tooling meet customer requirements for product quality and process efficiency, participating in tool and process design reviews, and engaging in troubleshooting activities on the shop floor.


DUTIES OF THE JOB:

  • Lead, coach, and mentor a team of tool & die makers and apprentices, promoting collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement. 
  • Allocate tasks, set performance expectations, and conduct regular performance evaluations.
  • Collaborate with the engineering department to develop and improve tool and die designs for quality, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness. 
  • Oversee tool and die equipment setup, operations, and maintenance. 
  • Monitor production processes to ensure adherence to specifications and quality standards.
  • Drive lean manufacturing principles and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Manage inventory of tool and die components, materials, and supplies, ensuring availability for production needs while minimizing excess.
  • Participating in tool and process design reviews for new and existing tools or equipment.
  • Lead troubleshooting and development activities of all new and existing tooling and process equipment.
  • Update tooling, equipment drawings and revisions as required.
  • Request quotes / issue purchase orders from suppliers and outside contractors for material or services.
  • Participate in the Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) process to ensure the successful launch of new products.
  • Develop work instructions and best practices for the Tool Room Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.


EMPLOYEE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Review and approve design changes, ensuring compatibility with manufacturing processes.
  • Identify opportunities for process optimization, efficiency enhancement, and cost reduction within the tool and die department.
  • Must complete first aid training and serve as a designated first aid responder on the production floor to ensure immediate support in case of workplace emergencies.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations and company policies.
  • Provide training and skill development opportunities to team members.
  • Work independently and take initiative.
  • Communicate both verbally and written; in a professional and co-operative manner.
  • Strong team player, able to interact with all levels within the organization.
  • Work in compliance with the Occupational Health & Safety Act (OSHA).
  • Follow all Omex Manufacturing ULC company policies.
  • Willingness to take additional training courses, as required.
  • Achieve performance requirements in a responsible and economical manner.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Tool and Die Maker Certification 430A OR a degree or diploma in Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum three years’ experience in a managerial or supervisory role within a tool and die department.
  • Analytical, mechanical thinking.
  • Proficient with industry-standard CAD applications 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office applications.
