About the Role

Description

Purpose of the Volunteer: Provide immediate crisis intervention to victims/survivors of sexual assault and/or domestic violence in the emergency department of participating hospitals, police departments and/or over the 24-hour helpline.  

Volunteer Job Duties:   

  • Provide face-to-face crisis intervention and advocacy to adult/adolescent victims/survivors at the hospital during sexual assault forensic exams and/or during reports made to law enforcement. 
  • Work as part of a multidisciplinary team consisting of medical staff, law enforcement, advocates, and other professionals.  
  • Provide crisis intervention, safety planning, and consultation over the phone.  
  • Assist with follow-up services, via phone to those individuals seen at the hospital.  
  • Utilize a survivor centered, trauma informed approach. 
  • Attend all monthly in-service meetings.  
  • Comply with the rules, regulations, policies and procedures of the YWCA of Metro St. Louis, local hospitals, and police departments.  

Requirements

Qualifications:

  • Individuals must be 18 years of age or older.  
  • Have reliable, personal transportation.  
  • Complete 48 hours of training.  
  • Complete a minimum of 3 on-call shifts per month.  
  • Excellent communication skills.  
  • Pass the Family Care Safe Registry and criminal background checks.  

Work Hours:

  • This is an unpaid, volunteer position providing crisis intervention and advocacy services. The YWCA provides a 24/7, 365-day crisis response with volunteer shifts reflecting this need.  

Travel:  

Regular travel throughout St. Louis City and St. Louis County.  


Supervisor:   

Volunteers report directly to the Crisis Intervention Supervisor.
