Job Purpose/Summary

Directs and coordinates organization’s financial affairs according to GAAP-compliancy along with the functions of fundraising to meet the income needs of the organization.

    • Includes oversight of program support and Diversity Equity and inclusion management as it relates to the Grants department


Duties and Responsibilities

Accounting

  • Ensure the enactment of organization’s monthly financial procedures, including processing donations, reimbursement requests, etc. 
  • Analyze and monitor Accounts Receivable; establish follow-up procedures. Analyze and monitor Accounts Payable and generation of payments. Reconcile bank statement.
  • Maintain General Journal entries and ledger. Monitor account balances and perform account analysis including problem resolution. Generate all required month-end journal reports and general ledger reports and close general ledger monthly.
  • Oversee all accounts, ledgers, financial software and reporting systems ensuring policies and procedures are in compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Manage organizational cash flow forecasting by working in partnership with department and subsidiary leaders; collaborate to assess the financial efficacy of program operations and establish finance and administrative systems to support program operations

Financial Management

  • Provide assurance that the agency follows Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and that methodology is in accordance with standards for non-profit reporting.
  • Design and produce financial statements with notes and other required reports on a monthly basis. Monitor financial reports for completeness and accuracy.
  • Provide Executive Directors and Board of Directors with financial reports, analysis and review. Attend quarterly Board of Director meetings to report on financial matters as directed by CEO. Assist Treasurer as needed; direct and coordinate finance committee.
  • Manage annual audit, filing of Form 990.
  • Oversee an inclusive process to establish an annual operating budget for the Organization as well as individual affiliate budgets
  • Assist Executive Directors in budgeting process, including: design, planning, preparation, and assessment of annual operating and initiative budgets.
  • Assist in the monitoring of grant budgets and the enactment of financial procedures and policies related to specific grants. Provide all required financial reports for grants. 
  • Provide staff training in the areas of budget development, budget management, fiscal accountability, finance procedures and more
  • Assist CEO and Board of Directors in investments: research, savings evaluation, and implementation of directives. Monitor performance.
  • Serve as the point of contact for all banking services. Maintain, evaluate and recommend optimum-banking services required by the organization. 
  • Monitor investment and cash management accounts and work to maximize return on our investments and resources while operating within government regulations
  • Develop new systems to support the financial and accounting needs of the organization, as necessary. Assist with risk management for organization.
  • Reviews and refines accounting procedures for the organization

Administrative

  • Provide strategic vision, planning and oversight of CIS’s financial outlook
  • Manage finance department personnel to include hiring, training, delegation of duties and performance management

Resource Development

  • Assist resource development leadership in analyzing donor trends, preparing appeals, campaigns and grant proposals which fit into the organizational strategy
  • Oversee Grant functions and ensure strategies are in place to meet budgetary targets for Grant fundraising. 
  • Ensure the maintenance of financial records and recordkeeping systems to ensure including grant and contribution accounting, to ensure compliance with all regulations, generally accepted accounting practices and contractual requirements
  • Manage and staff financially-related organization committees such as Finance Committee. Attend additional committee and board meetings in an advisory capacity
  • Develop and maintain contracts/agreements with vendors.
