The Caring Place (@Miami Rescue Mission & Broward Outreach Centers) is a leading provider of services to the homeless and needy of South Florida. We are looking for like-minded, dynamic individuals to come and join our team. The Caring Place provides emergency shelter, residential programs, job training, education & computer literacy classes, healthcare, transitional housing, permanent housing, employment opportunities for homeless men, women, and children as well as programs for “at-risk” youth.
We are currently seeking a FT Food Service Coordinator at the Broward Outreach Centers in Hollywood, FL,
JOB SUMMARY
The Food Service Coordinator (FSC) reports to the Food Services Supervisor in providing the necessary planning, organization, direction, management and control to meet the training, purchasing, soliciting, usage, storage and inventory control of food service activities. The FSC will also prepare meals for residents, and act as the liaison between the Food Service Supervisor and Cooks at the center.
CORE DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepares meals for residents and assists with menu planning
- Oversees, trains, schedules and evaluates all clients and volunteers who are assigned to the Food Services department
- Enforces the Mission’s policies with employees, clients and volunteers
- Assists the Food Services Supervisor in planning, organizing, directing, and overseeing the operations of the kitchen, dining room, food warehouse and the office
- Communicates food service needs and issues to the Food Services Supervisor
- Trains and oversees clients working in the kitchen
- Promotes courtesy, respect, and dignity in dealing with others
- Oversees the inventory and service of food to avoid waste
- Coordinates food service pick-ups and deliveries of donated and purchased items
- Oversees the receiving, inventories, control, storage of food, janitorial supplies, and miscellaneous items both purchased and gift-in-kind
- Assures rotation of food to ensure first-in, first-out
- Assists in the preparation of Food Service reports
- Maintains a clean and safe kitchen, dining room, food warehouse, and office
- Oversees the upkeep and maintenance of kitchen, dining room, and food service warehouse, and equipment using Work Order Requests
- Attends company sponsored events to support the residents we serve
- Will lead and/or participate in devotions, prayers, or other ministry activities ex. outreach events
- Must be in agreement with and sign The Caring Place Statement of Faith
- Performs other duties as assigned
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Requires a High School diploma or GED and/or food handling certification
- Must have a minimum of 1 year of experience in an institutional cooking environment, and six months food service inventory experience
- Requires a valid State of Florida Class B driver’s license (4 pt. max)
- The FSC must have knowledge of institutional food preparation, storage, utilization and management, to ensure efficient, safe, smooth operation of the Food Services department
- Must be knowledgeable of OSHA and local health department codes to ensure compliance
- Must be able to diagnose equipment malfunctions used in the kitchen area and in the warehouse areas
- Must have a professional demeanor to deal with complex personalities of recovering adults, as well as donors and supporters
- Must have the ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing
- Conversational Spanish is desirable
- Must be computer literate have experience with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel and Outlook)
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be able to stand for extended periods, and have the ability to lift and/or pull objects weighing up to 50 pounds
- Must also be able to taste, touch, smell, see, hear and speak, in order to interact with staff and the general public
- Must also be able to move around as needed to perform essential job duties
