To provide a safe and effective aquatic program by directly supervising campers at the camp pool, understanding and responding to protocols and emergency procedures, and providing an exceptional camp experience to all. When not actively lifeguarding, this position may also serve in the role of camp counselor, supervising campers and leading other program activities. This is an 8 -week seasonal position that will run June 2026 to August 2026.
Requirements
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Provides emergency lifesaving assistance to swimmers; performs lifesaving C.P.R. and first aid in accordance with certified practices and procedures; contacts emergency medical assistance when needed; stays with victims until emergency medical assistance takes over care of victim.
- Performs all duties in accordance with prescribed regulatory compliance guidelines as well as American Camp Association accreditation standards and GSUSA guidelines.
- Provides constant surveillance of pool activities to help prevent and manage injuries.
- Directs and supervises the behavior of all swimmers to ensure compliance with pool safety rules.
- Monitors changes in weather and responds appropriately and in cooperation with established camp guidelines for pool evacuation; guides campers in a calm and orderly manner.
- Other duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications:
- The following valid certificates, and/or wallet card(s) must be possessed at time of application and maintained valid throughout employment: Lifeguard Training, First Aid, CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, and Water Safety Instructor issued by the American Red Cross or other nationally recognized certifying agency
- Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions. Outdoor exposure includes elements of nature to include humidity, heat, shrubbery, vegetation,,etc., as well as bugs and reptiles.
- Demonstrated stamina to work outdoors in various weather conditions
- Demonstrated normal depth perception
- Must pass a level 2 background screening
- Annual membership with GSUSA required
- At least 16 years old
- Willingness to work a flexible schedule
- Part-time, non-exempt, flexible position
