POSITION SUMMARY
Operates Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) equipment to produce cross-sectional images of patients’ body for diagnostic purposes. MRI technologist is responsible for patient safety while performing an MRI exam.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS
Associate’s degree or equivalent to an approved Radiologic Technology program. Two to four years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
LICENSES/CERTIFICATION:
Certificate issued by the State of California as a Radiologic Technologist.
Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT.
Current BLS
IV certification
Registered CT Technologist preferred
Registered MRI Technologist preferred
Requirements
Position-Specific Standards:
· Responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing the use of equipment to minimize hazards of Peripheral Nerve Stimulation (PNS).
· Understands the absolute contraindications in the operations of MRI.
· Written and oral screening will be performed on every patient, each time!
· Communicates to patient regarding the hazards of ferrous materials and magnet.
· Able to determine most suitable position and coil, per exam.
· Keys commands to specify scan sequences and adjust transmitters/receivers into computer.
· Evaluates images for technical quality and repeats motion images.
· Strong knowledge and understanding of general anatomy, physiology and medical terminology.
· Possesses a high level of cross-sectional anatomy.
· Knowledgeable in booting up and bring down MRI computer.
· Imaging of designated anatomical area per doctors order and protocol.
· Administers IV contrast media.
· Explains procedures to patient to reduce anxieties and obtain patient cooperation.
· Communicates effectively prior to exam about the importance of being motionless.
· Demonstrates use of microphone and emergency ball to communicate to during exam.
· Continual observation through window to monitor patient safety and comfort.
· Processes images and reviews for proper identification and quality control.
· Prepares images for reading by radiologist or requesting physician.
· Performs routine maintenance, diagnoses malfunctions, and makes minor repairs on radiologic equipment, arranging for repairs as needed.
· Completes forms and maintains records of work performed.
· Routinely disinfects coils and table top after every patient.
· Checks, stocks and orders supplies.
· Reports to Director of Imaging, any problems or malfunctions with equipment.
· After hours call for x-ray and CT as needed.
· Knowledge of extension 3642 for all types of emergencies.
· Other duties as assigned.
