Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Maintenance Technician is a highly skilled, hands-on technical role responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and improving complex electrical systems and electrically driven equipment across the manufacturing facility. This position serves as the electrical subject-matter expert within the maintenance team and plays a critical role in equipment uptime, safety, and long-term reliability.

This role requires advanced knowledge of industrial electrical systems (110V–480V, 3-phase), motor controls, PLC-integrated equipment, VFDs, CNC machines, and facility power distribution.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Electrical Systems (Primary Focus)

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair industrial electrical systems ranging from 110V single-phase to 480V three-phase power.
  • Install and modify electrical drops for production equipment, CNC machines, lasers, and workstations in coordination with operations and safety.
  • Troubleshoot motors, contactors, relays, transformers, sensors, encoders, and safety circuits.
  • Maintain and troubleshoot VFDs, soft starters, HMIs, and PLC-controlled equipment.
  • Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, panel layouts, and OEM manuals.

Manufacturing Equipment Support

  • Perform advanced electrical and electro-mechanical maintenance on:
  • CNC machines and laser cutting systems
  • Finishing and cleaning equipment (blasters, vibratory systems, parts washers)
  • Air compressors, dryers, and facility utilities
  • Support machine startups, upgrades, retrofits, and relocations.

Preventive & Predictive Maintenance

  • Develop, improve, and execute electrical Preventive Maintenance (PM) procedures.
  • Identify failure trends and implement corrective actions to reduce downtime.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records, PM logs, and equipment histories.

Safety, Compliance & Reliability

  • Ensure all work complies with OSHA, NFPA 70 (NEC), and company safety standards.
  • Perform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and electrical safety practices without exception.
  • Support audits, safety inspections, and continuous improvement initiatives (5S, TPM).

Leadership & Collaboration

  • Serve as the go-to electrical expert for maintenance and operations teams.
  • Mentor and guide junior maintenance technicians in electrical best practices.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Production, and Quality to improve equipment reliability.

Requirements

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • 5–10+ years of industrial electrical maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated experience with:
  • 3-phase power systems (up to 480V)
  • Control panels, motor controls, and VFDs
  • Electrical troubleshooting under production pressure

Preferred

  • Technical degree or certification in Industrial Electrical, Mechatronics, or Automation.
  • PLC troubleshooting experience (Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar).
  • Experience with CNC or automated manufacturing equipment.

Physical & Work Environment Requirements

  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Frequent standing, bending, climbing ladders, and working in electrical panels.
  • Exposure to production environments including noise, dust, and varying temperatures.
