About the Role

Description

Work where you are surrounded by contemporary art and craft of the Puget Sound region! Bainbridge Island Museum of Art’s (BIMA) galleries, auditorium, Bistro, Store and plaza buzz with a variety of events covering the entire artistic spectrum. You are sure to be inspired by their striking work and thought-provoking themes as you support the Museum and its mission through your work as a part-time Bistro Barista/Server.


The Bistro Server supports the Bistro team by handling serving, bartending and prep work. Bistro Servers provide quality service to all guests, represent BIMA in a professional and effective manner and interact with guests with a fun, upbeat and creative attitude, all to add to the museum experience. This is an ongoing application, as the Bistro is always striving to add great talent to the team.

Requirements


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Greet and take guests’ orders with a welcoming demeanor and high level of service. Act as an ambassador of BIMA at all times.
  • Set up the Bistro for service, making sure food and beverage items are stocked.
  • Works with the Bistro Manager to create fun and manageable items for a "Happy Hour" menu
  • Utilize a Point-of-Sale system to take and fulfill orders, in addition to processing payment
  • Accurately balance the register at the beginning and end of shifts, using worksheets to record income. Inform Bistro Manager of any discrepancies.
  • Assist with food preparations, restocking, and dishwashing as needed.
  • Ensure that all areas in the Bistro and patio area are sanitized and cleaned after each use. Strictly follow all museum safety guidelines and policies.
  • Learn the food and beverage menu, including specials, to provide guests with assistance when guidance is needed to make a selection.
  • Learn about and remain up-to-date on all departments, exhibitions, and events that take place at the Museum in order to answer questions or direct guests to the proper person or resource.
  • Work with Bistro Manager to help execute and serve at additional BIMA produced events, such as member parties, festivals, cultural programming events, etc.
  • Other duties as required.


QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High energy and positive attitude
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work alongside a diverse team, plus the ability to work alone.
  • 1-2 years of prior serving experience
  • Able to work in multi-paced environment
  • Able to multi-task and consistently deliver excellent customer service
  • Current food handler’s card and class 12 mixologist permit (Class 13 server permit for those 18 – 20 years old.) May be obtained within the first week of employment.
  • Strong desire to grow with the BIMA Bistro as we prepare to open on a greater scale
  • Ability to lift 40 pounds
  • Ability to walk and stand for extended periods of time
  • Ability to use tablets and computers for point of sale functions
  • Availability to work variable hours, including evenings and weekends and holidays
  • Belief in BIMA’s mission to inspire curiosity, wonder and understanding by connecting people with the contemporary arts and craft of the Puget Sound region.

COMPENSATION, SCHEDULE, & BENEFITS:

  • Hourly wage $17.25 - $18.50 DOE.
  • Schedule: Part-time. Includes weekends, evenings, and holidays. BIMA is open 363 days per year.
  • Tips are shared amongst staff based on hours worked.
  • Free meal per shift.
