About the Role

Description

The Spanish Teacher is responsible for designing and delivering engaging Spanish language instruction that fosters cross-cultural understanding, curiosity, and a love of learning. This role provides a supportive, inclusive, and safe learning environment while aligning with Core Knowledge/Classical curriculum standards. The Spanish Teacher collaborates with colleagues, communicates with families, and contributes to school-wide academic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Spanish, or a related field
  • Proficiency in Spanish with strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong classroom management and organizational abilities
  • Ability to create a supportive, inclusive, and engaging learning environment
  • Commitment to fostering curiosity, cross-cultural understanding, and a love of learning in students

Preferred

  • Experience teaching elementary and/or middle-school students

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop and deliver Spanish lessons aligned with Core Knowledge/Classical curriculum standards.
  • Teach vocabulary, grammar, reading, writing, listening, and conversational skills appropriate to grade level.
  • Introduce students to Spanish-speaking cultures, traditions, and history to promote cultural awareness and appreciation.
  • Foster a positive classroom environment that encourages participation, collaboration, and respect.
  • Employ diverse instructional strategies, materials, and technology to support language acquisition for students with varying learning needs.
  • Plan lessons that meet individual student needs, interests, and abilities, providing both support and challenge.
  • Maintain a safe, organized, and well-managed classroom environment.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to integrate Spanish instruction into interdisciplinary learning experiences.
  • Communicate regularly with parents regarding student progress, goals, and classroom activities.
  • Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and school events.
  • Represent the school’s mission, philosophy, and policies professionally to students, families, colleagues, and the community.
  • Maintain proper discipline and supervision in the classroom and school premises.
  • Keep accurate attendance, grading, and progress records in the student information system.
  • Assess student performance regularly and provide timely feedback, progress reports, and deficiency notices.
  • Conduct parent-teacher conferences during the school year.
  • Submit lesson plans, assessments, and reports as requested by administration.
  • Prepare substitute teacher materials when necessary and notify administration promptly regarding absences.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by administration, including supervisory responsibilities such as carpool, recess, or lunch duty.
