About the Role

The Ocean County Utilities Authority, a public wastewater treatment facility consisting of three treatment plants and 40 pumping stations, is presently accepting applications for the position of HVAC Technician Aide I-IV. This position is part of the Authority’s Paid Apprenticeship Program and is located in Bayville, NJ.

The Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) Technician Aide I, II, III, IV is responsible for the repair and maintenance of all Authority heating, ventilation and refrigeration equipment. Progression from one level to the next depends upon a variety of factors such as time in position, performance, additional skill and training, and the discretion and approval of the Authority’s management. These increments are not automatic. Attitude, attendance, and other subjective criteria will also be considered by the Authority.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Assist the HVAC Technicians in the repair, maintenance and proper operation of HVAC and refrigeration equipment at the Authority’s treatment plants, pump stations, metering stations, etc.
  • Responsible for the repair and maintenance of the Authority’s boilers and associated equipment.
  • Assist in preparing orders for required parts and equipment.
  • Responsible and liable for basic set of tools when issued by the Authority.
  • Responsible for the implementation of preventive maintenance programs.
  • Assist in performing alignment on Authority HVAC related equipment.
  • Must be available for emergencies on a 24-hour basis.
  • May be required to perform tasks while utilizing respiratory protection.
  • Required to maintain good housekeeping practices and to perform duties in a safe and efficient manner.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

A High school Diploma or equivalent is required. The candidate must have minimum of two years of hands-on experience in the maintenance, repair and operation of commercial HVAC equipment and prior work experience with refrigerated “walk in” boxes, soldering, compressors, boilers, as well as experience with computer, analog and pneumatic controls. The ability to work from equipment manuals and schematics is required as well as the ability to work with hand tools and various power tools associated with machinery repair.
